Another round of attack happened Monday morning

The army is inspecting reports that another round of artillery attacks by Cambodian troops took place on Monday morning in Si Sa Ket province.

The sounds of the attack sent local people living in Pusamrong village in Kantaralak district run for shelters at about 8.30am.

The 2nd Region Army Commander Lt Gen Thawaschai Samutsakorn said that the army sent a helicopter to the area to check the damage and the injuries.

Foreign Media: Tensions Remain High at Thai-Cambodian Border

Foreign media have reported that tensions remain high at the Thai-Cambodian border following a succession of clashes over the weekend near the 11th century ancient temple of Preah Vihear.

The two conflicting nations are now said to be in talks to bring the situation to normalcy.

France-based news agency AFP reported that during his weekly television address on Sunday, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva defended a counterattack by Thai border troops against Cambodian counterparts as self defense, claiming the Cambodian side opened fire first and Thai soldiers were forced to retaliate to protect the nation's sovereignty.

The premier denied that Thai soldiers fired back into a Cambodian village targeting civilians, while stressing that border conflicts must be resolved through peaceful means.

He said the Army and the Foreign Ministry are in discussions with Cambodian counterparts in hopes of bringing the situation to normal.

Meanwhile, a commander of Cambodian troops stationed at the Preah Vihear Temple said though the two sides met on Sunday and are working together to sort things out, they are prepared for combat, as the situation remains tense.

Usual flights between Thailand and Cambodia amid intensified cross-border dispute

Both Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia are still in their usual operations for the routes between Thailand and Cambodia amid the ongoing cross-border fighting between the two countries.

Although Thailand and Cambodia clashed for a fourth day along their disputed border, Bangkok Airways continues operating between Bangkok and Phnom Penh and Siem Reap as usual while Thai AirAsia remains its daily service.

A spokeperson of Bangkok Airways said that the airline remains its service for the Bangkok-Phnom Penh route with five flights a day and the Bangkok-Siem Reap route with four flights per day.

The seller of Eternity cosmetics said the exhibition has been quiet for the past three days, but business usually picks up in the afternoon.

Court Postpones Verdict on PAD Bus Jackers

The court has postponed reading the verdict for the six security guards of the People's Alliance for Democracy accused of stealing a bus with a gun in 2008.

The Criminal Court has postponed reading the verdict for the six protesters accused of stealing a public bus with a gun.

The defendants were security guards of the People's Alliance for Democracy or the PAD.

On November 24, 2008, during the PAD rally, the defendants allegedly stole a Route 53 bus at gunpoint and forced its driver to take them to the Government House.

Police shot one of the bus's tires to stop the bus and arrested all six of them.

The court has postponed delivering the verdict to March 2, as the court was overloaded with other cases.

Court Postpones Verdict in Case Involving Missing Muslim Civil Rights Lawyer

The Criminal Court has postponed the reading of a verdict from the Appeals Court in a case involving a Muslim civil rights lawyer who went missing in 2004 after petitioning over police abusing southern insurgent suspects.

The Criminal Court postponed the reading of the Appeals Court's verdict in the case involving the disappearance of the chairman of Thailand's Muslim Lawyers Association, Somchai Neelapaijit, who filed lawsuits over the alleged police torture of insurgent suspects in the southern provinces during the government of Thaksin Shinawatra, in 2004.

The public prosecutor, Somchai's wife and four children, brought the case against Police Major Ngern Thongsuk and five other men, who were charged with coercion and robbery.

The suspect was not present in the court, as his relatives said he went missing after an accident at the Kwae Noi dam in Phitsanulok province on September 19, 2008.

Ngern's relative filed a request to the Pathumthani provincial court to declare him a missing person.

The Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the policeman and has scheduled another reading on March 11, while the provincial court is pending a decision on the suspect's disappearance claim.

Police ask Cabinet enforce ISA around Government House, Rajprasong

Police have asked the government to enforce the Internal Security Act to restrict demonstrations by both yellow-shirt and red-shirt protesters.

Police Commissioner-General Pol Gen Wichien Pojphosri said the prime minister, who is the ex-officio director of the Internal Security Operations Command, will ask the Cabinet to approve the enforcement of ISA.

He said the ISOC director will issue an announcement to restrict demonstrations around the Government House, Parliament and Rajprasong Intersection.

The move is necessary after the yellow-shirt movement plans a mass rally on Friday and the red-shirt movement on Sunday.
