Talking about accidents and road deaths makes me think immediately of the road.

Has anyone noticed just what the road is made of? The concrete was laid directly onto the dirt with no foundation or drainage. The concrete is 10cm thick with a rebar mesh to re-enforce it. When they laid the asphalt blacktop everybody was commenting about how quickly it was all being done. I saw them doing it - right on top of the crumbling concrete with no repairs and only just a few CM thick. Already is is coming apart and breaking away in sheets from the thin concrete beneath - witness the Chaweng part near to the PTT garage. And then they go and patch it with great lumpy slaps of tarmac that bubble up like blisters.

Another hasty PR exercise? Or was this a genuine attempt to improve things but executed without experience?

I read this in a Lee Child novel last night, which made me think of it:

"It was probably a yard-deep excavation, added drainage, a rock foundation, a thick concrete roadbed, rebar, a four-inch asphalt layer rolled smooth and true by heavy equipment."

The damage at Chaweng part near to the PTT garage was caused because the street to the hills turned into a river during the last flooding.
