1. Do not select based on cheapness. This is your eye sight.

2. Do not have this surgery in Pattaya. Come to Bangkok.

3. In Bangkok, best place is Rutnin Eye Hospital.

http://www.rutnin.com/eng/html/common.html

Specializes specifically in eye problems and consistently positive reviews from TV members. It is not top end in terms of price but neither is it rock bottom. But as I said, rock bottom priced eye surgery = not a good idea.

When cataract surgery is done, an artificial lens is implanted. There are different types of lenses and some types more costly than others. Discuss frankly with the doctor your cost concerns and discuss with him/her what type of lens is most suitable for you in terms of both cost and results.

Agree! Rutnin's a good place to go. I've had the cataracts in both eyes done there, plus a more serious op for glaucoma in the left eye, a trabeculectomy, about seven years ago. Then the right eye started to go bad, long term glaucoma again, pressure not controllable with eyedrops, so had another trabeculectomy done on it last month, which also seems to be working out well.

Highly recommend Rutnin, I've been going there for about 18 years now, mostly for these glaucoma pressure checks every 90 days.

From first post not sure cataract needs to be removed. If you can see comfortably with glasses the advice I have received is wait until it becomes oppressive before surgery. Perhaps with more reliable procedures today it is not followed that much but know my doctor has not recommended removal and continues to feel only do when it becomes a serious factor in lifestyle.

Lop3, that's exactly what I was told at Rutnin. Had my first cataract done there in 1999 altho the doctor had mentioned that it was coming on a few years earlier. About 1996 I was in to see him and mentioned that my med insurance was already over the deductible amount, so how about doing it then, he asked if it was bothering me, to which I said not really. That's when he replied that it'd be best to wait until it does. He also said that any surgical procedure has some risk, and if it's not really necessary at the time, best to put it off until it is. I like that kind of advice, at least it shows he's not after my $$$ in fees.

I recently had surgery on both eyes for cataract and inserted new lenses. It was RESTORE lenses-This has been a huge success. I have used glasses most of my life and my glass was plus 3and plus 4, and astigmatism in left eye.

The time might feel a little long but 14 days after each surgery I had a perfectly clear vision.

I'm just so happy that I have had this surgery, and in this town, the price were. The price was 53.000.-baht for everything on each eye for..

Operation, lenses, hospital stay of 2 days and afterverification.

I forgot to say that I do not need glasses anymore.

The right eye is ok, but left - is not. I can not see well in glasses.

Everything is cloudy.

Member feedback on the facility you mention has been mostly negative. Again, I strongly urge you not do this in Pattaya but rather in Bangkok.

For just about everything, costs in private facilities in Pattaya are higher than in similiar facilities in Bangkok and quality lower.

You can call or email Rutnin re price. I would be very surprised if not less than you were quoted Pattaya. But as I and others have mentioned, cost will depend on the type of artificial lens implanted so in comparing prices need to make sure you are comparing prices involving same type of implant, otherwise comparison isn't valid, it's apples and oranges.

Also need to make sure prices are inclusive of the lens device.

Today I got the answer from Bangkok Clinic

Thank you for being interested in our hospital. Regarding your question about Cataract Surgery, all of our surgeons do Cataract Surgery with the Phaco Emolsification Method. The estimated cost of the operation is about THB 65,000-75,000 per eye (not including the medication). However, the patient needs to come to the hospital for a primary eye check up first (THB 1,500-2,000). If the operation is needed, it can be done on the next day.

Is that including RESTORE LENSES or is it just for the cataract operation with normal lens. If it is only for the normal cataract operation. I would say very expensive.

Almost forgot -- general consensus seems to be that the best option in Pattaya area in terms of both cost and quality is the Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital in Sattahip. If you do a search of this forum you'll find many mentions of it and contact info.

As it is a government hospital waits will be long and the administrative staff and nurses will have no or little English, but the doctors will speak English well and you'll certainly save considerable money over the costs of the same procedure at a private hospital. Would be worth ensuring you have a Thai speaker with you at least the first time you go to help you navigate the red tape, get registered etc.

All the feedback I have seen on that hospital with regard to the quality of care has been positive.

This hospital I have recommended to many last year. Not because they are cheap. butbecause they really have skilled physicians, as most military hospitals.

I believe this, and this without even knowing it,

So if they have a clinic for the eyes, you're not going to pay any more than 40,000. baht for a cataract operation, but of course it will cost more as in my case, if you want to RESTORE LENS.

RESTORE LENSES look here terestif you have in

Thanks

I live in BangSaray and was in Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital in Sattahip.last week.

They look me and said - 30 000 baht for one eye with 2 nights accomodations at hospital

The operation is available only for May-June

Now I am thinking...

In the province like mine, and in all the military hospitals around Thailand . They suggest 2 days in the hospital to eliminate too many problems with infections. This hospitals is not farang factories', so they are a little more concern.

Thats life and money..

You save almost 40.000.- baht on each eye... so what is your problem... Happy you...

From the link you gave (http://www.eyecaretyler.com/restor.htm):

The surgeon will usually place a shield over your eye after surgery. You will be ready to go home after a short stay in the outpatient recovery area. Plan to have someone else drive you home.

So I'm just wondering what the usual procedure is.

I am very sorry... but I can not take that serious. The infections problem here in Thailand can be very bad... Just see out of your windows when they burn sugar kain... You will have a very bad situation. The dust in Thailand must be the worst in the world.

I do not care about the eye days. I care about the survival for the individual..... Not the life of course, but getting the sight right after the operation..

That's why concerned.. doctors keep the patients more than 2 hours...
