Stealth Uprade From 3Bb Pattaya?

Featured Replies

This morning I noticed a considerable speed increase on Utorrent.

Checking Speedtest several times, I found I am receiving 12mb/1mb. :)

My package is 8mb/1mb.

If the speed holds I will be happy. Truth be known, their service last couple of months has been horrible. Constant time-outs and dropped connections.

To help ensure the speedtest is not giving a bogus result, when going into your modem/router setup (like where you enter the User ID and Password for your ISP), what download/upload sync speeds are shown. This tells you what speed you are connecting to the DSLAMs which is the only real way to confirm whether your ISP has you running on a 12Mb/1Mb package.

Checking my router gives these numbers..

Download 14236 Kbps

Upload 1263 Kbps

Service is still crap though, with many time-outs. You can't win! :(

I hear you! Even a fast connection download-wise in speed tests doesn't mean there are not a lot of stop-and-go's in the millisecond range which makes doing streaming video or streaming anything hard to do. Ex: to this day, I can't watch YouTube type videos without a lot of pausing...it was true on my 2Mb suck arce Goldcyber plan, my much better JINET 2Mb plan, my TOT 4Mb plan, and now my TOT 6Mb plan...pausing has gotten to be less and less but still way too much. These plans always provided full speed for in-Thailand web sites, but only about 25% of full speed for international web sites with no shortage of stop-and-go's. But the old 2Mb Goldcyber plan was up-and-down way too much....wasn't/isn't a physical line problem with my phone/DSL line as the line has excellent SNR and attenuation values...I even have a standalone line now for my internet which connects directly to the ADSL modem jack with no house telephone wiring or any other device on the line. The line coming to the house runs unbroken from its connection to the main phone line junction box on the pole to the phone/DSL jack in my wall. And as mentioned, the SNR/Attn valves show a excellent connection all the way to the phone company's central station/DSLAMs. TOT just has a high user/contention ratio to share its limited local, national, and international bandwidth with.

In another month or so I will be able to switch to True internet via "cable"...True is stringing the cable TV/internet lines in my moobaan as we speak. Will have speeds up to 100Mb...I will sign up for either their 10Mb/699 Baht or 20Mb/1,299 Baht plan (higher speed plans exist up to their 100Mb plan at 4,499 Baht)...I"m hoping I will then be able to watch streaming video again without lots of pausing....but I won't be surprised if that hope don't come true because of Thai ISP limited international bandwidth and the number of hops/relays to web sites outside Thailand....but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've never had the chance to be a True internet customer since TOT rules the lines in my moobaan, but hopefully True internet will be better...most TV posts indicate they are better, but a lot indicate they are no better than any other Thai ISP. I guess a lot depends on your location in Thailand....good/fast internet in Thailand is definitely a Location, Location, Location crap shoot....yeap, keeping my fingers crossed.
