my final thoughts on BKK vs. Pattaya. at both locations eggs are boiled by heating up water. in BKK too they don't use fancy french mineral water to prepare the eggs and the water in BKK boils (as it does in Pattaya) at 100ºC... i was told.

moreover, i've heard too many complaints about Burumgrad where a patient is treated like a number and not as an individual.

Could not agree more.

I will go to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital next week to see the doctor recommended by Phil Connor. I am only doing that to discuss my tests and see if I should/could continue on the Betaloc 25, Cordarone 200mg and Livogen Tablets I have to take for another 3 weeks. If I can take tablets for a while it will give me time to assess all my options.

I am off my crutches in about 3 weeks and able to travel to Bangkok. I will try the St Louis hospital recommended by Sheryl.

I thank everybody once again for all the support and good advice.

This morning I visited the doctor recommend by Phil Connor at BPH - Doctor Kitti Nakjuntuk.

He was indeed very helpful, looked at all my ECG charts and read the toxicology reports. He checked my heart with a stethoscope and we agreed we had what Sheryl described as "lone" AF. In other words my heart is working well and has no underlying problems, but beats irregularly.

I was in his office for 45 minutes and he answered all my questions. He recommended I use some medication for now to thin the blood and slow down the heart rate. He recommended I take Aspirin at an increased daily dosage of 325 Mg to thin the blood and continue to take one Betaloc 25Mg tablet twice a day as now to slow down the heart rate.

We talked about various operations, in particular Radio Ablation. He did not recommend that for now, but we agreed I would go and see him again in a few months time, have an ECG and discuss the options again. He quoted a price of between 600K - 800k Baht for the operation which requires a 2 day hospital stay.

He advised me that I could still play sport so thats good.

I was charged 750 baht.

All in all a very useful trip.

As I can walk very well now I will visit some of the other places recommended in this thread over the coming weeks and months. I will also continue to read up about AF on the internet. Curiously I have a similar problem to The former UK Prime Minister - Tony Blair. His Radio Ablation was successful, so I guess thats a positive scenario I should take on board!!!

Thanks again for all your help and feedback on this.

Just one other question, I can only get 100 Mg Betaloc at Fascino so can I split those into 4 to get 25 Mg tablets. I have read elsewhere that tablets cannot be broken like this unless they have a groove on them as the medicine is not spread evenly in a tablet?????

Metoprolol is the generic of betaloc. You might see if you can find 25mg under the name metoprolol. From what I can see doing a quick google, betaloc comes in 50mg and 100mg. Better to buy 50mg and cut in half, rather than 100 into quarters. If you have to do the 100mg, use a pill cutter to get the quarters as even as possible. I got one at villa market pharmacy.

Thanks ktamp I will look for that when I go to Fascino tomorrow. I got my Betaloc 25 from the hospital in India where I had my op, so maybe they dont have the 25mg size here in LOS.

While there are many locally made brands of metoprolol, none of them come in anything smaller than 100 mg.

Split the 100mg tabs in half along the line. That gives you 2 doses of 50mg.

Then split the 50 mg as evenly into half as you can, using a pill cutter if possible. Altho there may be some small differences between the 2 doses each day, you'll be getting a total of 50mg each day. Should be OK.
