Ratsima Posted February 19, 2011 Share Posted February 19, 2011 Beginning this morning I'm not able to access certain web sites via 3BB Internet unless I use a proxy or VPN. It's a strange collection of inaccessible sites that includes thaivisa.com, comics.com, and others. I was unable to download today's edition of the Bangkok Post to the app on my iPad using 3BB, but I was able to download it using a DTAC Edge cellular data connection. On some sites the site itself loads, but many of the images, backgrounds and some CSS elements do not. I have spoken to a few other 3BB customers in my area (Korat) and they confirm having similar problems. I suppose it's silly to ask, as anyone else having similar problems will not be able to read this post, but, anyone not using 3BB having Internet trouble today? Tywais Posted February 19, 2011 Share Posted February 19, 2011 Others are reporting the same problem, including myself, in the Chiang Mai forum. At least for me, by using an open caching proxy server (not to be confused with an anonymous proxy server) the problem seems to have gone away. Normally I use FF and just got empty pages until I implemented the caching proxy server. Just tested IE on the Microsoft site that the OP shows. Get a failed connection. Ratsima Posted February 20, 2011 Author Share Posted February 20, 2011 We just called 3BB customer support. They went through the usual reboot the modem/router reset the port routine. When that didn't work they passed the problem up to technicians. Technician just called back. I think she understands the problem, but it was very difficult for me to explain to her. She seemed to understand when I told her that everything works fine if I use a proxy, but that many sites fail if I do not. We'll see. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I seem to recall that a few years ago I discovered that 3BB's predecessor, Maxnet, was using the Squid Proxy in order to enforce government bans on certain sites. A misconfiguration of Squid could cause the problems that we are seeing now. Edit: I should add that the 3BB technician called me back to ask what proxy I was using. She copied it down and said she'd get back to me. That was about three hours ago. At least they acknowledge that they have a problem. I couldn't even open the TV forum and other websites all the day, but now, 8:40 PM everything is fast. I've tried many browsers with the same results. I've noticed degraded connectivity for the last few days, and tonight, many sites give me: Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://whatever” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again. Chrome: The webpage at http://whatever might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error. I find that when the page error shows up hit CTRL+F5 key combination to reload the page and it will come up. For example, the Microsoft Thailand link in the OP. Came up as an empty page with FF, then CTRL+F5 loaded fine. Bit of a nuisance for sure. Using a different caching proxy server has helped reduce those failures quite a bit though. Tywais Posted February 20, 2011 Share Posted February 20, 2011 From reading the various posts/topics about this problem it does appear to be a major problem with one or more of their caching proxy servers (http proxies). That would explain why VPN works (for me also) and if I use an alternate http proxy it works. Also, ran a test on torrent downloads. Started a 380 MB torrent download and it averaged between 4Mbps - 5Mbps download and finished quickly. Torrents don't got through a http proxy server.
