Keep fighting it, Boon. Keep fighting...

He has to. If one allows the purveyors of nonsense, falsehoods and lies to continue without rebuttal, then the nonsense, falsehoods and lies eventually become perceived as the facts and the truth, and that's a scary scenario that happens all too often in american politics and american life.

Seep and Boom fighting a desperate cause with such desperate arguments is quite funny :o

Reminds me of the captain on the Titanic :D

The New York Times relies on more than 1 news channel source for their stories  :D  They have their lapses and occasional freaks like everyone, but they are not a rag.

The NY Times having the occasional lapse and freak, is like former president Hill-Billy getting the occasional oval office bj.

Do the names Jayson Blair and Timothy O'Brien ring a bell? If not, they should as they are prime examples of the unethical practices (e.g., plagiarism, fabricated stories, etc.) which seem to be so commonplace in the NY Times. See:

http://www.russianlaw.org/nytimes-main.htm

And these two chumps were RISING STARS within the NY Times organization!

I find it hard to believe that anyone spends a nickel on this RAG!

Sorry, a consulting outfit like Authur Andersen gets caught cooking the books. They deserve to get put out of business and they were.

A "newspaper" which clearly makes common practice of violating journalistic ethics deserves no less. The problem is the NY Times has built such a huge folowing from the loyal leftists of Manhattan that this will never happen. In other words, the loyal left will continue to buy and believe in the NY Times, despite the fact that it is a RAG!

Yes, and I vaguely alluded to those incidents in my previous post. They are two people, and for the most part an anomaly. The NYT has been in existence since the 19th century or so. And it's definitely not perfect, but the conservative assessment is completely biased, expecially since most of the news organizations in the states are privately owned by private investors. There are many angles that they could report but don't, because it strays to far over to the left. The difference with Fox "News" and the like, is that its very existence depends on it staying far to the right all day long. Whether you like it or not, the NYT is still a more trusted news source than NewsMax and Fox "News". And by the way, it is far from being a "Manhattan" newspaper. It is the defacto national daily, read by leftists, commies, students, activists, professors, homeless, unemployed, investment bankers, and all of Washington, D.C. - so - cry me a river.

Perhaps this is because they use more than one source, of which would

definitely not be a show based on the editorial commentaries of "news personalities :o

You want Blanco and Nagin impeached, but not the President, who has now raised serious doubts about not 1 but 2 unprecedented disasters in American History.  Unf*ckinbelievable.

Blanco and Nagin should be impeached because they were grossly negligent in their sworn duties. Do you deny this fact? If yes, why? What did they do that demonstrated preparation and competency?

As far as your bush-bashing goes, exactly how did the President raise doubts about 911 and Katrina?

- 911 happened and Bush started kickin' a*s and takin' names. There was hardly a single Congress-person (male or female, elephant or donkey) to be found with an opposing view of his post-911 strategy (at least until just before the last election). So how does that raise doubts? Face facts, Kat, it didn't and it doesn't. When practically all of Congress backs the President's play, then by default he is doing the right thing for the country.

- How did Bush's action raise doubts about the hurricane disaster. He had people on the ground and mobilized in less than 5 days. For the record, that's a full 1 week FASTER than people got mobilized under Clinton for Hurricane Andrew, and under BushSr for Hurricane Hugo. So how does that raise doubts?

Why don't you just face it Kat? You can't stand Bush and there is nothing that will stand in your way for taking a cheap shot at him.

Then when people like me stand up with a counter-point, not to defend Bush but to point out the realities and facts of the situation, you just call people Bush-lovers and neo-cons. Sometimes the truth hurts doesn't it?

Round and round we go, dosey doe, dosey doe :D

These circular arguments never end :D

Please refer to everything that has happened since 9/11 Spee, and I mean EVERYTHING, not just the things that are pushed forward on Fox "News" and single source NewsMax. I'm too tired to repeat everything.

Except to say, that it's funny that you conservatives call honest, informed, critical thinking, Bush-bashing. And you are a part of the same constituent that wants to ban scientific evolutionary theory and replace it with "Creationism"; big surprise, that one.

When our economy collapses and we fall into a late 19-century state of development, we will be no different than muslim theocracies, but with the religious right as our "saviours". Thanks SO MUCH for the enlightenment. People with master's and Ph.ds in the states are now driving taxis, not unlike Cuba and post-Soviet Russia.

From multiple news outlets, when asked about the ultimate death toll from the storm, hizzoner the mayor of NO responded by saying:

"It wouldn't be unreasonable to have 10,000."

Not so famous last words? One would hope so given his recent demonstration of obvious incompetency.

While it is a tragedy for anyone to die in this way, I believe the official count has yet to exceed several hundred, and that is for the entire affected region, not just NO. As of Saturday, there were more reported deaths in Mississippi than in Louisiana, much less NO.

Nagin and Blanco should be impeached and removed from office for demonstrated incompetence and lack of planning in the face of a well-known, simulated and predicted disaster scenario.

IMHO, it's not too far-fetched that Nagin should be prosecuted for inciting public unrest and disorder by these and other well publicized "Chicken Little" rants.

The entire death toll for ALL of Louisiana has hardly reached 200. Nagin only exaggerated and over-reacted by a factor of 50. But hey, that's not gross incompetence.

Right. Nagin over-reacted by a factor of 50, during an unprecedented disaster, in which there was no immediate federal assistance.

Bush squandered over 1000 young American lives, 100s of thousands more Iraqi lives, turned a trillion dollar surplus into a trillion dollar defecit that is still going, all for what will most likely be another Islamic theocracy beholden to Iran; gee thanks, Mr President. And here's the clincher -- it was all based on faulty evidence.

And let's see, you are screaming for Nagins head, huh ... :D

I used to think it was just the editorial page of the NYT that was out-of-step.

No longer...the entire paper (rag) sucks - to wit:

Kurtz Backs Geraldo in 'NYT' Dispute Over Katrina Incident

By E&P Staff

Published: September 12, 2005 12:07 PM ET

NEW YORK At the time, it seemed like a minor, one-day story -- amid the tragedy of the hurricane catastrophe -- but is The New York Times, normally quick to run a correction or clarification, making it much more than that by stonewalling?

Read the whole thing...

:D oh lord, now they've pulled out Geraldo stories; Yes, the pinnacle of journalistic pride.

Part of what happened was off camera, by the way. But who the <deleted> cares :D

:D Yes, you all are going to save the nation; after you destroy it and "rebuild it with slavelabour", as someone very aptly said on this forum.

I won't be responding to this thread as much anymore, as I tend to bore easily, so go ahead and take the floor .... it's all yours :D

Kat~

You sound like Tricky Dick Nixon after he lost the election for Govenor of California to Edmund Brown I believe - "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore"! :o

Maybe to you, sweetie, but then again, you probably liked Mr. Tricky Dicky Microphones.

I was only in the 2nd or 3rd grade when he was president, and I KNEW he should of been impeached, even then. And I would have never voted for George W., not even then.

So you see, maybe it is your mind playing tricks.

sweet dreams

:o

Please refer to everything that has happened since 9/11 Spee, and I mean EVERYTHING, not just the things that are pushed forward on Fox "News" and  single source NewsMax.  I'm too tired to repeat everything.

You know ..... you really kill me with all of your assumptions, Kat!

Yes, it is true that I am an American. Yes, it is true that I have watched Fox News before.

Yet you clearly imply that I'm some sort of Fox News drone, who watches it for hours every day and believes every single word pontificated on it.

Truth be told, I have been working overseas for the vast majority of the past five years. The total amount of time I've watched Fox News over that period is but a minute fraction of the time that I've watched the BBC, CNN and other international news programs.

If nothing else, I find the BBC, CNN International, NHK and other international news programs to be typically very refreshing and open, and very capable of providing a factual and independent viewpoint, from that pontificated by all the talking head shows in the states.

I mean really, does anyone think there is any big secret as to why people like Rather, Jennings and Brokaw, and Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley before them, managed to survive on broadcast news for decade after decade? It's certainly not because they are good journalists who always spoke the truth.

It's because the news networks are an integral part of the power structure and societal control mechanism in the states. The really smart people are those who can see through that smokescreen and remain an independent and free thinker.

Have you ever watched ABC, CBS and NBC news at the same time? They practically read from the exact same script. It is a continuous, monotonous drone of the national party line.

Truth be told further, IMHO, Fox News has gone way down hill since it's original heyday several years ago. It is hardly different from any of the other talking head shows.

But your's is precisely the misleading preconceived notion that is so predominant from the left. That is, anyone who has even a remotely conservative thought or leaning, right away has to a Fox News drone or Bush droid.

Frankly, it's a very easy tactic to spot. On the far right, Limbaugh has been doing the same thing for 15 years to paint every liberal thinker as an ultra-leftist.

Yet neither is true across the board as these people would like you to believe. It goes further to my other point that if people push the BS long enough, and get enough people drink in the magic koolaid being freely distributed, then it in effect becomes truth.

NY Times is a rag like the rest of them. The problem w/news media these days - they all have agendas/biased. It didnt use to be that way which is rather sad.

Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders

AP - 2 hours, 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks. "Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.

Solved: he's admitted its his responsibility. hooray.

Hpwever, when I screw up at work , at something thats my duty, I get fired. How come he can take responsibility - and...nada.

Let me see: Katrina is a natural disaster that just happened, in America, and is in the subject heading of this thread and others, in Bedlam, where Americans and others come to discuss, argue, and comment ... and you are complaining because you find Americans arguing and discussing Katrina on a thread about - wow - Katrina. What a coincidence :o

What amazing powers of deductive reasoning you possess. Thanks for your contribution.

Why don't you find some other thread that does nothing but ogle and discuss barely legal girls. I'm sure you'll find plenty of "identikits" over there.

On the news that the city of New Orleans is currently unable to meet its next payroll:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a...rricane_katrina

"We're out of nuclear-crisis mode and into normal, day-to-day crisis mode," Nagin said.

Oh, I see. So the city has been broke for a long time and it took the hurricane to bring the problem to the forefront. Seems to me that the mayor actually using the hurricane as an excuse to bail out the city from a pre-existing financial mess that he knew full well while presiding over it and allowing it to happen.

From Louis Farrakhan:

"I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."

"FEMA is too white to represent us and so is the Red Cross, so we're going to demand our place at the table."

"It is the wickedness of the people of America and the government of America that is bringing the wrath of God down,"

Is there any doubt that this idiot is a class-A neo racist nutcase??

From Jesse Jackson:

"Today, as the President comes to Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi for his ceremonial trip to look at the victims of the devastation, he would do well to have a plan more significant than a ceremonial tour. His whole response is unacceptable. How can blacks be locked out of the leadership, and trapped in the suffering?"

Oh, I guess being the Mayor is the same as being locked out and trapped. Jesse may not be quite as big of a nutcase as Calypso Louie, but he's as big or bigger of a neo-racist.

"The UN relief effort for the tsunami was superior to the US effort for New Orleans and Louisiana. For American citizens, we deserve better."

Oh really??

The President approved a $50B+ recovery package for the Katrina relief. The President asked Congress to approve approximately $1B for tsunami relief.

What is it with Jackson and Nagin when it comes to basic math?

Gee .... $1B for the tsunami .... $50B for Katrina .... I could be wrong, but it appears ol' Jesse is full of sh*t again (not that I'm surprised).

Jackson- he's a sad muppet who basically is a racist. Bring up his questionable finances, questionable morals and I dare say he will slither back from hence he came from. Sharpton/Farakan are much the same using race for their own advantage and its quite sad especially the support they get.

Democrat Congressman Abuses Power

Wow! A shocker!

Amid the chaos and confusion that engulfed New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck, a congressman (William Jefferson, D - LA) used National Guard troops to check on his property and rescue his personal belongings - even while New Orleans residents were trying to get rescued from rooftops, ABC News has learned.

Military sources tells ABC News that Jefferson, an eight-term Democratic congressman, asked the National Guard that night to take him on a tour of the flooded portions of his congressional district. A five-ton military truck and a half dozen military police were dispatched.

Lt. Col. Pete Schneider of the Louisiana National Guard tells ABC News that during the tour, Jefferson asked that the truck take him to his home on Marengo Street, in the affluent uptown neighborhood in his congressional district. According to Schneider, this was not part of Jefferson’s initial request.

The water reached to the third step of Jefferson’s house, a military source familiar with the incident told ABC News, and the vehicle pulled up onto Jefferson’s front lawn so he wouldn’t have to walk in the water. Jefferson went into the house alone, the source says, while the soldiers waited on the porch for about an hour.

Finally, according to the source, Jefferson emerged with a laptop computer, three suitcases, and a box about the size of a small refrigerator, which the enlisted men loaded up into the truck.

The Louisiana National Guard tells ABC News the truck became stuck as it waited for Jefferson to retrieve his belongings.

The soldiers signaled to helicopters in the air for aid. Military sources say a Coast Guard helicopter pilot saw the signal and flew to Jefferson’s home. The chopper was already carrying four rescued New Orleans residents at the time.

A rescue diver descended from the helicopter, but the congressman decided against going up in the helicopter, sources say. The pilot sent the diver down again, but Jefferson again declined to go up the helicopter.

After spending approximately 45 minutes with Jefferson, the helicopter went on to rescue three additional New Orleans residents before it ran low on fuel and was forced to end its mission.

“Forty-five minutes can be an eternity to somebody that is drowning, to somebody that is sitting in a roof, and it needs to be used its primary purpose during an emergency,” said Hauer (a homeland security expert and ABC News consultant).

And if this story was about a Republican or worst a member of the Bush administration, Boon me would have been outraged by this witch hunt of innocent patriotic republicans :o

Boon me, you are making a fool of yourself as usual, nobody is taking your baits or taking you seriously, you are a clown. You are not debate material. You are just a ridiculous troll but it's ok we still love you :D

Things I have learned from watching the news on TV during the last couple weeks... :D

The hurricane only hit black family's property.

New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.

Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.

New Orleans has no white people.

The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.

When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.

The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans: now the city is on welfare, looters and gangs are free and they are in your city.

White folks don't make good news stories.

Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.

Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.

Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid.

Danm, I feel so sorry for all those black folks. The only way it could have been worse was to be white. :o

You'd have to have been paying attention to what was really going down in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast but I'll attest to the above as the majority of opinion as to the real events associated w/Katrina - jing jing...
