A comfortable 4-0 win against Chiang Mai FC took F.C. Phuket to 5th as the Southern Sea Kirin look to get their season back on track after two consecutive defeats away from home.

Goals from Sarach Yooyen, Nene Bi Tra Sylvestre, Nithirot and Watcharapong extended coach Surachai Jirisirachote's unbeaten run at Surakul Stadium to 5 matches in front of the biggest crowd ever seen for a home match.

They now need to sort their away form out and that can start with a trip to Bangkok on May 1 who sit just one place above the relegation zone in 15th place.

The lads are away against Bangkok FC this weekend and hopefully they can overcome their away day blues. The next home game is on May 1 v Thai Honda. The match against Chiang Mai had a great crowd of about 5,000 people which is fantastic but I reckon we can do better!

Come and support the lads next weekend - it's the best value for money on the island in my opinion!

The lads caught a lucky break last weekend as they were being stuffed 5-2 by Bangkok FC when the heavens opened and the game had to be abandoned. Still not sure what the authorities are going to do but in all honesty they should just award BFC all three points as 80 mins had been played.

FC Phuket are at home again this weekend (thank christ for that given our dreadful away form) against Thai Honda FC. Thai Honda aren't much cop, sitting in 15th but they have a good engine in midfield...

The match is on Sunday and the kick off is 6pm as per. Tickets priced as normal. I hope we can get a crowd similar to last time out when more than 5,000 rocked up to the fortress Surakul.

Let's make it happen!

Thai Honda hit for 6!

Goals from Nenebi, Thawin, Choi, Coulibaly, and Adama (2) saw FC Phuket thump Thai Honda at Surakul Stadium tonight. The lads were 2-0 up at half time and even had the luxury of missing a penalty when Nenebi saw his spot kick brilliantly saved by the visiting 'keeper.

The southern sea kirin cut loose in the 2nd half, finding the net another four times. Big striker Kone Adama was in inspired form, creating a couple of the goals and grabbing two for himself.

The win sees FC Phuket move to 4th with two games in hand although one of those games will be a loss as the previous match against Bangkok FC was abandoned with 7 mins left and the lads losing 5-2.

Up next is an away game against Customs United FC who have lost their last 4 matches.

We seem to have improved our skills at home...away we seem to be a different side.

I saw on Sunday that Rawai supporters club got a nice bit of airtime on TV with their banner. Good news for them...

It has changed quite a bit but there's still a number of last season's champions in the first team. Sunday's back fout - Ronnachai, Suphat, Nenebi, and Nithirot are all from last year (Nithirot is more of a midfielder but his natural replacement Rappepan - number 25 who I think is a cracking player - was also there last year).

Number 7 Sarach is from last year but the remainder of Sunday's midfield - Coulibaly, Choi and Nirun - are all newcomers. Thawin, the number 10 who has sadly broken his ankle and will be out for a long time, was one of last year's but Adama, the big Ivorian up front is a new one.

Add to those both goalkeepers (and thnk god as last year's were woeful), Brazilian Renato, Ivorians Ibrahim Coulibaly and Moussa Tiene, plus a number of Thai players you can see there was quite an overhaul.

FC Phuket fought their way back from two goals down to earn a point away from home against Samut Prakan Customs United FC last Saturday but extended their winless streak away from Surakul Stadium to four matches with the result of one game still to be decided.

The Southern Sea Kirin’s home form has been exemplary but the green’s failure to pick up just two points away from home has seen them trail league leaders Buriram FC – the team that pipped FC Phuket to Division Two glory last year – by 12 points after 10 games, albeit it with two games in hand.

Fans of FC Phuket who made the journey to Samut Prakan could have been forgiven for travelling to the game with hope of seeing their side pick up their first three points away from home.

The home side had lost its previous four matches at home and away, while coach Surachai Jirisirachote’s men went into the game on the back of a 6-1 thrashing of Chiangmai FC.

Any optimism that they felt was blown away in the first 40 minutes when FC Phuket found themselves 2-0 down and without the services of midfield star Sarach Yooyen who was forced to leave the field of play with a serious injury.

Despite the setbacks, the players refused to let their heads drop and within minutes had reduced the deficit when winger Nithirot Sukuma made it 2-1 just before half time.

The late goal rallied the side and Nenebi Tra Sylvestre equalised in the second half from the penalty spot.

It was the Ivorian’s third goal in as many games and also the third penalty FC Phuket have been awarded in that spell.

Nenebi showed great character to take the penalty and seal a point, having missed from the spot in the hammering of Chiangmai.

Neither side could find a winning goal and coach Surachai’s side can hopefully build on this performance and move back towards the summit of the league.

FC Phuket are in action tomorrow at Surakul Stadium against Saraburi FC (not next week like I thought). Kick off is at 6pm. Tickets priced as usual.

Saraburi are 8th, we're 7th - should be a good game but I expect a home win.

FC Phuket slump to home defeat

A dismal first 45 minutes in which the home side conceded two goals was enough to condemn FC Phuket to a first home loss of the season, one that could have serious repercussions for their chances of gaining back-to-back promotions and a place in the Thai Premier League.

Goals in the 31st and 42nd minutes from the Ivory Coast’s Kanisso Camara and Sama Alpha of Sierra Leone respectively inflicted a first home league defeat since 2009 when the Southern Sea Kirin were in the lower reaches of Division Two South.

The result leaves FC Phuket in eighth in Division One, trailing top-of-the-league BBCU FC by 15 points with the result of one game yet to be decided and a game in hand.

The previous two home matches had seen crowds of more than 5,000 file through the gates at Surakul Stadium but with Manchester United’s impending coronation as Premier League champions at a similar time, a smaller-than-hoped crowd turned out to see the match between the seventh and eighth ranked teams.

Those who did come to support the home side were rewarded with the worst first half performance since the club’s first year of existence.

Surachai Jirisirachote’s side was already shorn of injured key men Sarach Yooyen and Thawin Butrasombat, and the coach’s decision to not start with defender Suphat On-Thong and midfielder Abdul Couilibaly had disastrous consequences.

Suphat’s replacement Wiratroj Chanteng suffered a torrid time on his return and without the calming influence of Coulibaly in midfield, the home side were often overrun.

The visitors made the brighter start to the match and created several good chances in the opening 20 minutes; only some desperate FC Phuket defending kept the score 0-0.

The home side also struggled to find any rhythm up front and seemed content to play aimless long balls to the ineffective Kone Adama, all comfortably dealt with by the Saraburi defence.

With 31 minutes gone the visitors scored the first of two goals in 11 minutes, both from ghastly defensive errors.

For the first goal, the home side failed to clear the ball on several occasions before it found its way to the unmarked Camara who made no mistake from about 12 yards.

FC Phuket almost equalised moments later but soon found themselves 2-0 down when Wiratroj made another defensive error to allow Alpha to double Saraburi’s advantage.

Coach Surachai must have torn into his side during the interval for they came out for the second half looking like a team that had won its last home game 6-1.

A decision must have been made to revert to FC Phuket’s usual quick passing and movement style of football and soon they were on the front foot, carving out a succession of chances but were unable to make any of them count.

Nirun Panthong forced the ‘keeper to tip a 25-yard shot round the post, Nenebi Tra Sylvestre headed inches wide after 56 minutes, Nithirot Sokuma hit the bar with a brilliant free kick which had the goalie beaten before Nenebi had a header cleared off the line.

That was the closest the home side came to scoring and Saraburi held firm much to the delight of their travelling supporters.

FC Phuket: Theerawat; Ronnachai, Wiratroj, Nenebi, Rappepan; Choi, Seksit (Coulibaly, 73), Nirun, Nithirot; Adama (Watcharapong, 51), Tameesee (Renato, 66).

Next Fixture: Saturday, May 21 v Chantaburi FC (a).

Fair enough, thanks. I was pretty certain that the goals were scored by two separate people - numbers 29 and 35 - but happy to be corrected.

FC Phuket are in action at Surakul Stadium tomorrow v Buriram FC at 6pm. Tough game for the SSK but with your support they can do it.

The lads are currently on a run of three games without a win since stuffing Thai Honda 6-1 but picked up a point on their travels last weekend. A win is pretty important here if they are to get their season back on track after what was a promising start.

See you at Surakul

Coach resigns after Buriram loss

FC Phuket are now searching for a new manager after coach Surachai Jirasirichote dramatically resigned on the pitch at full time of the home side’s 3-0 defeat against Buriram FC on Sunday.

Frustration at Surachai’s stuttering reign as FC Phuket coach boiled over as a group of home supporters staged a protest demanding the manager’s removal after a defeat that extended the home side’s run without a win to four matches.

The dissention from the supporters who attended the match with banners saying, “We love FC Phuket; Surachai GET OUT” forced the resignation of the former Thailand international, leaving the Southern Sea Kirin in ninth place.

Sompong Watthana has been confirmed as the new coach.

It was Buriram that pipped FC Phuket to the national Division Two title last season and the Volcanoes claimed all three points thanks to two fortunate goals either side of half time and an injury time penalty conceded when goalkeeper Theerawat Pinpradub suffered a rush of blood to the head.

A record crowd of at least 10,000 filled the majority of Surakul Stadium as fans turned out in huge numbers for the eagerly anticipated match, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

The number was significantly boosted by the presence of The Lava – the Buriram FC supporters club – who brought a large crowd with them and were magnificent in support of their team.

The game started at a high tempo and FC Phuket winger Nirun Panthong brought an early save from ‘keeper Umarin Yaodam with less than a minute gone.

The visitors responded well, however, and could have been two goals up inside 11 minutes if striker Chakrit Waranprakone had brought his shooting boots, firing wastefully over the bar on two separate occasions.

FC Phuket began to get a foothold in the game and created three good chances of their own that were squandered first by Poramut Krongbarisut and then twice by Sarach Yooyen.

With 36 minutes gone, Buriram made FC Phuket pay for their profligacy. Chakrit was once again given space by Nithirot Sokuma and fired a shot towards goal that was heading wide before it took a wicked deflection of Suphat On-Thong to leave Theerawat no chance.

Down but not out, the home side forced a number of corners and attacking throw ins and came close to an equaliser when Nirun forced Umarin into a superb reflex save before Poramut volleyed over.

After the break, the home side piled forward in search of a first Surakul goal in more than 135 minutes and a succession of free kicks from the left almost found their way into the net but the Buriram defence and Umarin held firm.

Mid-way through the second half, Buriram went 2-0 up with a goal that owed as much to good fortune as it did to poor defending.

Chakrit was given the freedom of the penalty area to juggle the ball several times before attempting an audacious overhead kick which luckily deflected into the path of Brazilian Douglas who volleyed home.

Fearing the worst, sections of the home crowd began to leave the stadium and the home support’s misery was complete when Theerawat brought down Olivier Ndjoua for a penalty which was duly dispatched by substitute Rattapon Piyawuttisakun.

The final whistle was greeted by dissenting voices from the crowd who made their displeasure known, leaving Surachai little choice but to walk before he was pushed.

A brave move by Surachai to resign on the pitch but no wrong doing can be attributed to the FC Phuket fans as AM put it in his article. Fans protest at football stadiums all around the world. Labelling FC Phuket fans thugs for doing so shows a total lack of knowledge about the game. Thai football fans are far more accommodating than any other fans I've seen. They drink together before matches, cheers each other's teams after the game and much more.

New FC Phuket manager Sompong Watthana was unveiled to the press today and outlined his plan to turn around the fortunes of the club who have gone four games without a win and have failed to win an away match all season.

Sompong pit much of the blame on the attitude of the players who he believes are only about 70% fit. He puts this down to many of the players eating badly, drinking, smoking and staying out late.

He plans to crack down on this unprofessional behaviour off the field while improving the way the team plays on it. Having met the players for the first time today, the new coach got them to train in the rain and had the players practicing the pass-and-move style of play that was so successful under coach Arjan Songngamsub last season.

With any luck, we'll see an improvement on and off the field and get our season back on track.

FC Phuket are back in action at home this Saturday, hoping to end their six-game run without a win. This weekend's opponents are Chainat FC, a team that came up from Division 2 with FC Phuket last year.

The Hornbills have fared better in division one than the Southern Sea Kirin but the lads will be looking to pick up three points and get their promotion aspirations back on track.

Saturday's match is the first of three in 8 days with a game against Bangkok Christian College coming up on Wednesday in the Thai FA Cup followed by a game against Thanyaburi RA United on Saturday, June 18 in the Toyota League Cup.

Tickets for this game are priced as usual. Please turn out to give the new coach full support in his first home match.

FC Phuket in Cup action tonight

FC Phuket are back in action tonight at Surakul Stadium when they take on Bangkok Christian College FC in the FA Cup.

The Southern Sea Kirin have shown signs of a return to form under new coach Sompng Wattana, typified by their 4-1 thumping of Chainat FC at the weekend.

Goals from Nirun Panthong, Nene Bi, Sarach Yooyen and Paulo Renato brought to an end a run of six games without a win last Saturday night as the home side played some of their best football in recent months

Tonight’s opponents currently sit 5th in the Regional League Division Two Bangkok, having collected 24 points from their 15 games so far.

The former Premier League side warmed up for tonight’s clash against the Southern Sea Kirin with a 2-1 away win against Thanyaburi Rose Asia United last Saturday, who, coincidently, will be FC Phuket’s next opponents this coming Saturday in the Toyota League Cup.

Kickoff is at 6pm and tickets are priced as usual. Fans can take their own refreshments into the stadium but please be aware that glass bottles are prohibited.

They're back!

After a run of five games away from home following the restart of TPL Division One, FC Phuket finally return to action at home tomorrow night (Wednesday, August 24) in the Toyota League Cup.

We're at the quarter-final stage and the lads trail Division Two South side Phatthalung by a goal to nil after the first leg. That match saw the Greens travel south with just 15 fit players which included 3 goalkeepers after the squad was hit by injury and illness.

Hopefully coach Somphong Wattana should have more fit and healthy players at his disposal for the return leg and the team will have been boosted after they secured their first league away victory of the season on Sunday.

The match kicks off at 7pm and tickets are priced as usual. The lads need our support to overturn the one-goal deficit and should they succeed a semi-final tie against Thai Port or Chiang Rai awaits.

Please tuen out to support FC Phuket tomorrow night; best value entertainment on the island plus you can take your own beer in!

See you there.
