Baking Flour

Featured Replies

I have just got into doing my own baking and I'm a bit mistified by what flour to buy.

In BigC in Chiang Rai they have Cake Flour and All Purpose Flour, are either of these self raising??? If not then I should add Baking Powder 1 tbsp to I cup. I don't want to do this if the flour contains a raising agent already. I haven't seen the self raising label on any packets. Maybe problem as all the writing is in Thai.

Please advise me somebody.

I would guess that the cake flour is self-raising and all-purpose is not. Why not make one muffin and see?

You would also need strong flour for bread-making. Proper bread-making anyway.

If they are the same as Pattaya then neither of them are self raising, I used to use the cake flour to make my self raising with the addition of baking powder. I can now buy both Aussie and UK self raising in Friendship in Pattaya.

My wife owns a bakery and we've run through pretty much all the flours available here. Neither of the flours you mention is self raising. Unless a flour explicitly says it's self raising (or rising) it isn't.
