webfact Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 BMA installing more streetlights BANGKOK, 1 March 2011 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is expediting a survey of the capital areas where lighting is poor in order to install more streetlamps. Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra announced that the installations followed public requests made through Hotline 1555 and compiled from the 50 district offices. The governor said that all district offices had been tasked with surveying various alleys to see if more streetlights were needed in line with the government’s Pracha Wiwat welfare policy. MR Sukhumbhand said the move would help cut crime rates by 10% in line with the government’s goal stipulated in the Pracha Wiwat social welfare scheme. According to the governor, the BMA has to install 3,000 additional streetlights in areas designated by the government. So far over 230,000 lamps have been installed along 1,000 major and minor roads across the capital city. -- NNT 2011-03-01
hhgz Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 More streetlights? That's terrific! Wait a minute...the BMA paid several hundred million baht to have a lot of new streetlights installed several years ago, and none of them work. Are these new ones actually going to work, or are they going to stand in dark, moot testimony to the corruption that the BMA is known for?
whybother Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 There will be a project next year to connect them to the electricity grid.
nowork114 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Same as the nice, green corroding lights that have never been used installed on Krungthonburi road? I've seen some on Sukhumvit none of them working ... maybe someone forget to put bulbs in the project ...

I've seen some on Sukhumvit none of them working ... maybe someone forget to put bulbs in the project ... Could it be that there were bulbs, but the bulbs have other uses and therefore resale value?
