Police nabbed 2 for allegedly trying to smuggle phones into prison

By The Nation

Songkhla police have arrested two suspects for allegedly trying to smuggle mobile phones, sim cards as well as a box of liquors into Songkhla Central Prison.

Police did not identify the suspect but said one was an owner of construction material shop while the other was employee of the shop.

The suspects were arrested as they were riding a truck carrying stones and rocks into the Songkhla Central Prison.

Police said they found under rocks and stones 60 mobile phones, 18 sim cards, ear phones, six phone batteries, 35 chargers and one box of liquors as well as drug consuming equipment which were hidden in PVC tubes.

The suspects claimed that they did not know about the tubes and the confiscated items. They just received an order via a telephone call from a prison official to buy the stones and bring them to the prison.

Meanwhile Songkhla Central Prison Commander Udom Kuinara said that internal investigation is conducted to know whether there were any prison officials involved in the smuggling.
