Disneyland In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hong Kong Disneyland threw open its gates to the public Monday, marking Mickey Mouse's biggest push into China — a market the U.S. company hopes will flood the theme park with splurging tourists from the world's most populous nation.

How well do you think Thailand would do if Disney came to town, where would be a good location and what things would either make it work or flop?

Thailand would do fine with or without Disney, it's how well Disney would do that is the issue, and doubtless they would give it at least a couple of years to see how well HK got on before even considering a location.

I myself am in the theme park business so I will take my chances on Phuket or outer Bangkok as a location and there is no reason why it shouldn't do well, the Thai's have embraced everything else American so why not this?

Disneyland is huge so it doesn't really matter where it is because people will travel there for no other reason than to visit Disneyland.

A smaller version of Disneyland will be arriving in Bangkok mid October. :o

I think it would be a mistake and end up tarnishing Disneys image....even with outside management I dont consider the Thais able to handle such construction and reliable/safe running of such a venture.

Disneyland in Thailand would be great. But I agree with ArtfulD, even if Disney provided training for them a few changs later it would all be forgotten.

I thought they already had one at the Houses of Parliament.

don't be naughty Ice, maybe I will change my mind about you!!

Disney flopped big time in France, although they are still trying there

I dont think there is the market in Thailand, partly because not enough cash customers, partly Disney is awful and Thais don't like to queue.....

Flopped in France cause it's too ###### cold! To succeed it needs to make money all year round, not just in the summer.

I think it would do well here if was put in the right location.

What about Don Muang Airport when it closes, just about the right size methinks.

10 years ago Disneyland negotiated with the Roi-et government to set up Disneyland here. Market survey showed that climate is a key factor. All year round profitable because of the ideal climate. It failed because of water shortage. A business like this requires a lot of water. Now this problem is solved.

I'm sure dumbo the elephant would be welcome but not sure about the little rat and his girlfriend. (Micky and Minnie) Also, traditional disney prices would have to reflect the lower cost of living so most Thai's could come.

Amateur pikey ain't you Scamp? :D

Every time I disembark plane, entering Thailand I feel like I am in Disney Land. I mean "Land of Smiles" fits in with Fantasy Land. Land of Tomorrow etc. LOL

But really before I discover Thailand my favorite destination was Disney World in Florida, visiting it 3 - 4 times yearly. Thailand has now replaced Mickey, and Donald duck.

Fun is fun ...... In my opinion Thai Disney would work well..........Maybe somewhere between Bangkok, and Pattaya..........DJM

If Thailand ever made a theme park, could these names be useful for a few of the rides ?

Bar girl – The Escape

Nana - The Ride Of Your Life

The Big Baht Dipper

The Soi Dog Chaser

TukTuk Wurtzeler

Issan Voyager

Mekong Minger

Tornado (sorry he’s banned)

The Pattaya Bareback Rider

The Katoey Beach Run

The New RUNWAY

The Hub-a-Hub-a-Do

Any more suggestions ?

Has anyone visited the HK version yet? Thinking of taking the family during the week or next. A bit concerned about the park being overcrowded though.

:o

Some big katoey in a Mickey Mouse outfit, prancing around in front of the children or fondling the arse of his mate who is dressed in a Minnie Mouse outfit, is a sight I would not enjoy watching.

The same goes for Donald Duck waddling around going 'Klack Klack' in stead of 'Quack Quack.'

It's a goofy idea.

Yesssssss I think it would work. As long as they don't have an upstairs....DJM :o

I'm sowwie! I won't be naughty again I promise :o

:o , Whatever you say, 'Walt' !

Actually Disney won't come to Thailand as the parks are carefully placed in catchment areas of dense population clusters. There just aren't enough people here, or within 3 hours travelling.

I for one cannot wait for Disney to come to Thailand and I'm really looking forward to paying 3 or 4 times the admission fee to that of the Thais.

Oh the joy of queueing for 50 minutes for a 2 minute, standing in line in the blistering heat or a monsoonal downpour surely can't be beat.

Who cares that I'm paying exhorbitant fees basically to spend the day seeking out the least attractive of the attractions because the queues are shorter. I just long to see Mickey Mao and Donald Dack so much I'll pay anything. :o

It's only an matter of time before Disney Thailand come to town.

Oh, wait, Thailand is Disneyland.... :D:o:D

That is about the most intelligent comment in the whole thread. I would add that the population must have enough disposable income to afford to go, something sadly missing in most of Thailand's 66 or so million people.

HK was chosen in order to take advantage of the middle class in HK and neighboring Southern Mainland. China probably has a smaller percentage of middle class then Thailand, but due to the much larger population, sheer numbers can be staggering.

Personally you couldn’t drag me to the HG Disneyland, I just can’t imagine me in the middle of several hundred thousand Chinese all pushing to the front of the queues. I saw one comment on Thais waiting in line, obviously the author has never been to China.

:o

Population is not an issue, as Orlando doesn't have big populations in the vicinity!

but it's a prime holyday destination and has the perfect climate! :D

Thailand would have the perfect climate too, but the problem is the middle class with not enough money to afford Disneyland, - although the intensions of the majority of tourists to jump from one "attraction" to the next, could be considered as helpful? :o

If TW, her daughter and sister are anything to go by the idea would be a commercial flop. After Dream World and Water World on the QLD Goldcoast they said “never again”. --- Wonderful! Lucky me. --- Endless ques, too expensive, garbage food etc. :D

If you want to a Disney Land come up here to Isaan and visit some of the bars. :o
