Hi All, apologies for this newbie question: I'm planning to move to Thailand & get the OA retirement visa. I see that once I have it, I have to check in with the authorities (or mail in documents) every 90 days. What if I am out of the country for say 6 months, can I mail in the documents from abroad? Is there any requirement, if holding this visa, to remain in Thailand for any particular portion of the year?

Thanks!

OA retirement visas are ONLY obtainable in your home country.

In Thailand, you can get annual extensions based on retirement.

You don't ever need an OA to retire in Thailand; that is one way to do it.

When living in Thailand on annual retirement status, there is no limit on how long you can be out of Thailand, but you must return to Thailand before your current permission to stay expires if you want to continue to get extensions based on your existing/extended visa. You also need re-entry permit(s) to keep your current permission to stay alive when you re-enter.

While outside Thailand, there is no requirement to report to immigration every 90 days. Instead, you will be required to report 90 days after you reenter Thailand (and as long as you are in Thailand).

I reckon you'll have more questions ...
