Musharraf's arrest warrant issued for 3rd time sent to London

2011-03-07 01:34:46 GMT+7 (ICT)

ISLAMABAD (BNO NEWS) -- Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Sunday handed over the arrest warrants of former president Pervez Musharraf to the High Commissioner for Pakistan in the United Kingdom, ARY NEWS reported.

An anti-terrorism court issued on February 12 an arrest warrant against the former president in connection with the murder of Benazir Bhutto. Musharraf was ordered to appear in court on February 19, but his spokesman in London said that the former leader will not return to Pakistan.

On Saturday, the court issued the non-bailable arrest warrant for the third time after police had requested the court for an extension to execute the order. The court gave the FIA 15 days more to arrest the former president.

In case of non-arrest the former dictator could be declared absconding offender by the court and his properties in Pakistan be impounded. Sources said the FIA took the step to abide by the court orders it has issued in previous hearings as the agency had approached the Foreign Office to serve the notice to Musharraf's residence in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) pleaded for the non-bailable arrest warrant against Pervez Musharraf, arguing the former president has been named as accused in the interim chalan presented to the court.

Former prime minister Bhutto was shot dead in December 2007 in Rawalpindi while campaigning for the general election. The former military ruler has been living in London in a self-imposed exile after losing the general election in 2008.

If i remember well the war in Afghanistan, neighboring country to Pakistan, started because the then government of Afghanistan didn't cooperate with the 'west' and arrested and handed over the terrorist suspect Osama bin Laden to the USA.

The US government claimed that the aim of the invasion was to find Osama bin Laden and other high-ranking Al-Qaeda members to be put on trial, to destroy the organization of Al-Qaeda, and to remove the Taliban regime which supported and gave safe harbor to it. The George W. Bush administration stated that, as policy, it would not distinguish between terrorist organizations and nations or governments that harbored them.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_(2001–present)

The war started 4 weeks after 9/11. That gave the Taliban not much time to arrest Osama and even if they would have wanted to, to catch Osama turned out to be not that easy.

Okay now again an arrest warrant for a terrorist suspect and time is running. How long it will take for the UK authorities to arrest Musharraf and deport him to Pakistan? And if they dont do it within 4 weeks - what will be the next step?

Will the USA help? A Bush style BLITZ on London? And after this how long it would take to find and arrest this time the terrorist suspect?

IMHO chances are high to catch him. So they should do it. First the USA/NATO could prove that such tactic leads to success, prove that it is doable. Second, i hear often complains that there are to many Muslims in England and mosques are build everywhere. So there there should no doubt that the average citizen of a war supporting NATO state wont have any problem with it.

The invasion would be also much more easier, no language barrier, the cultural gap not that wide so there will be less cultural misunderstandings between the civilians on the ground and bomber pilots in the air.

The liberated natives will it also find less odd when Obama (Obama, not Osama) says that he will pray together with Michelle for the victims. His prayers for victims in Iraq, Pakistan or Afghanistan the locals there may have found it little bit offending or ignorant because they are Muslims over there, but as he follows more similar beliefs like the people in England, branches of a religious cult about the jew jesus who was nailed to a cross his prayers might be really welcomed or even help.

And most of all, such action would give the English people a interesting experience. War is coming home, live on the streets and the destroyed school buildings and not just only on TV. Without any real life experience most people don't know what kind of a hard jobs their boys in the bomber planes are doing and how horrible their post traumatic stress must be.
