I will be going to Pattaya later this month. It seems taking a taxi is the fastest but not sure if this is the smart thing to do for a girl alone? I speak some Thai but not sure if that makes it better or worse. So I'm thinking it may be better to take a bus as there will be lots of people. But then getting to find the right bus may not be safer. So.. taxi or bus?

If travelling from Bangkok finding the right bus is easy.

Just go to the Eastern Bus Terminal at Ekkamai.

Or the bus terminal at Mor Chit.

There's hourly departures to Pattaya on non-stop airconditioned buses.

If you go from Ekkamai, make sure you actually go inside the terminal to get your ticket.

The first time I went there, there was a big coach parked outside that had a woman directing people in who were for Pattaya.

It went Pattaya for sure, but took about 5.5 hours, stopped everywhere - and then didn't go to Pattaya bus terminal, but miles away on Sukhumvit!

Going to Pattaya-but where from????????????

Sorry, I thought I would connect directly from the Airport. Suvarnabhumi.

Unless there is a reason to go downtown first?

If that is the case, and you don't mind spending a few extra Baht, the taxi is the way to go. Pre-arrange pickup and they will be there waiting for you...and at pre-negotiated price!

I usually pay about 1100B or so from Mr T. Very reliable, any time of the day or night. PM me if you want his details!

I picked up a leaflet at the airport titled 'Public Transportation at Suvarnabhumi Airport''. Bus no 389 goes from the airport to Pattaya Jontien and bus no 9905 coming from Bangkok to Pattaya via the airport. Service is available from 0530hrs to 2100hrs, ticket booth is at Public Transportation Center at the airport. Bus 389 departs from entrance 8 on 1st floor passenger terminal and if you need more info you can phone 00662 1344099. (All this is from the leaflet)

If you are not going to Jontien then you can always ask the driver to drop you off at either Pattaya Nua (North), Pattaya Klang (Central) or Pattaya Tai (South) on Sukhimvit Road and get a baht bus from there.

Another alternative is to go on the City Link from the airport to Ramkhamhaeng (40 baht I think) and takes less than 20 minutes. Cross the main road so that you are on the same side as Nasa Vegas hotel. Then take a metered taxi to Ekkamai bus station (60 baht) and from there airconditioned bus to Pattaya bus station in Pattaya North. (113 baht) These buses generally leave every 20 minutes. Note an earlier comment that you should go to the Pattaya counter at Ekkamai and not anyone else.

Agree with another post that taxiwise Mr T is extremely reliable and should cost 1000baht. Just make sure someone else knows the taxi company you are using.

See this previous post and then take the bus provided by Bell Transportation, the bus stop is easy to find in the Airport - just keep going down :-).

You can also reserve on line

http://www.belltravelservice.com/

And they will take you from the bus terminal to your hotel and pick up from the hotel to the bus terminal for the return trip. It only runs during the day so you will need to check the times out.

Please, you have spent this much on an airline ticket to Thailand spend a few baht on private taxi to take you to Pattaya, and don't take a chance on spoiling your trip just to save a few Baht

I can recommend Mr.T, at 66 81-2587716, he has a Hotmail address but I think TV frowns on including email addresses in posts. PM me if you want his email

Trust me, after a long flight the last thing you need is to deal with the touts at the airport, the congestion of a bus, or dealing with your luggage when you arrive in Pattaya

You should read the original post in full before composing your reply.

The issue is not with money, but a girl travelling alone. Sitting in a taxi for an hour and a half wondering....

I too recommend Bell Travel's service for transport from airport to accommodation. 200 baht.

I've used Mr. T numerous times from BKK to Pattaya - totally professional service, so I would be comfortable recommending to any female friend.

I disagree with the above post, MrT is perfectly safe, and it is door to door, if you get off the bus you have to then get further transport to your hotel. B1000

20 Baht in a songthaew from the Pattaya bus station, free if you use Bell Travel.

I wonder if any of the pundits here have used the Bell Travel Bus to Pattaya lately, it's ethnic makeup has changed drastically and was the reason I would not recommend it to a single female traveller, Nuff said

I know many people who use Mr. T. He is fantastic. We've personally used him at least 6 or 7 times. Our last few drivers have been female. Every time, they are there with a sign, help us with our luggage, and deliver us right to our door. No songthaew, no shared bus, air con all the way, private, and excellent service. Only way to go unless you are trying to save a few baht.

I have used BELL bus many times. The last time was in May of 2010. The price is good, they provide a mini bus once you get to Thailand that will take you straight from the Pattaya bus station to your hotel. You now have to make a reservation on line but no monies are involved at that time. They just have some constraints about picking up walk on passengers.

The bus has always been clean. It is a direct drive, no stops along the way. I think it is the safest way to travel. I have taken taxis during the day, and they don't save you any time over the bus. I have taken taxis at night, and they have been OK, but twice the drivers have gotten off the main road, pulled over to some dimly lit place and gotten fuel. Many don't put fuel in, until they get passengers. That was the one trip (my second) where I had some nervousness about where the heck the driver was going at 2 am.

I have used both Mr-T and Bell Travel several times. Both are safe, reliable modes of transport but here is some clarification on this topic. Bell bus reservations must be made by phone and can not be done on their website. Bell's last bus departs Swampy for Pattaya at 6pm so it is not available for all travelers all the time. Mr T has stopped driving due to health reasons but his family still continues the buisness for him and do a great job for a very fair price. Just in case anyone is still following this thread.jap.gif
