bangkokeddy
A similar bus accident in Thailand would bring out all the Thai haters at TV.

animatic
A similar bus accident in Thailand would bring out all the Thai haters at TV. unfortunately a similar bus accident in Thailand would just be classed as 'normal'. And more as S.O.P. corruption stupidity rather than a pure accident, until proven to have incompetence malfeasance and corruption at it's roots. It is not necessarily 'Thai Haters' that decry the over abundance of extraordinarily bad accidents here, but many complain because they hope that doing so might cause enough loss of face for someone to cause some changes for the good to finally happen. In NYC you can bet the driver likely stayed with the bus. Questions will be asked the fault or faults ascertained and some actions take for those found culpable. and if all that is inadequate, people will be in the streets screaming for heads to roll. Bus accidents happen all over the world. Its nothing typical Thai nor the S.O.P. here. That the haters come forward seems to be normal.

Worse, many similar accidents have gone unreported. I've seen several just as bad or worse in my 9 years here. Never a word printed/broadcasted in the news. onnut
The pole went straight through the bus! Jaysus. The bus must of been moving some. Wonder how it happened! Difference between Thailand and the States is, the driver didn't run, and the cops will find out what happened and it will not be put down to sleepy, drunk, drugged driver or faulty breaks. LMAO "people will be in the streets..." According to reports a truck cut off the driver and they have not found the truck driver ... but will wait for the mass of people hitting the streets demanding heads to roll. The only outrage shown by the public I am sure are the people who were stuck in traffic or had to find alternate routes to get to work. blazes
Looks (see the article in the NY Times below) like the probable cause of the NY accident is exactly the same as many a bus accident here in Thailand....driver fatigue....everything done on the cheap. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/13/nyregion/13buses.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss
Finlaco
there's a difference between an 'incident' and an 'accident' if it's a solo driver 'high' on red bull and crashes after 11 hours of driving = an incident if it's a well maintained vehicle, well trained driver = probably an accident however,it been America (as opposed to Europe), probably find that the driver has the same employment rights/contract as a Thai worker
