Police to get 10 new stations in metro area

The Metropolitan Police will add 10 more police stations to help with the existing 88 police stations' workload and reduce crimes in Bangkok, an informed source at the Metropolitan Police reported yesterday.

The new stations are: Ban Bua (taking jurisdiction areas from Bang Khen and Thung Song Hong police stations); Khlong Sam Wa (taking jurisdiction area from Khan Na Yow); Sai Kong Din (from Min Buri); Saphan Sung (from Hua Mark, Prawet and Bang Chan police stations); Wang Hin (from Chokchai); Khlong Toei (from Thong Lor and Khlong Ton police stations); Bang Chak (from Phra Khanong and Bang Na police stations); Pracha Uthit (from Rat Burana); Chom Thong (from Bang Khunthien); and Ekkachai (taking jurisdiction area from Tha Kham).

Four police stations usually taking care of water areas (Pak Khlong San, Bang Pho, Bovernmongkol, and Bang Kho Laem), would soon be headed by a superintendent - instead of a chiefinspector - and the three would be given more land areas to cover.

Metropolitan police spokesman Pol Maj General Piya Uthayo said the 10 additional precincts would help reduce crime, especially in the vast areas covered by Bang Khen, Chokchai and Khan Na Yow police stations. The new precincts, located near communities or crimeprone areas, might at first rent space pending precinct construction. They will focus on gathering complaints and dispatching patrol officers, he said.

Details were being drafted for the national police chief's approval in principle, before proposal as a ministerial regulation, to be signed by the Prime Minister and announced in the Royal Gazette. Then it would be returned for the police to implement. Planning for the new precinct division should be concluded this week, he added

The new police stations would require 7,000 new noncommissioned police officers.

700 non-commissioned police officers, which does not include commissioned officers, per new station? That's a lot of tea money to be had. :whistling:

What a joke, the best thing the police can do about crime is disband themselves. In truth the 10 extra gang hangouts will increase crime.

Not 700, the article says 7000.
