AleG Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 A friend from Spain is thinking of coming over to Thailand at the end of the month to get a taste of the place; the problem is she doesn't have a lot of money for the trip and the stay so she asked me to help find a place to stay in Bangkok on a tight budget. I can go on looking on rental websites but I think it would be a good idea to have some input from people here. Besides this last days I've been very short on time so I can't go around condos asking. She's looking for something at or under 5000 Baht per month, although she plans to stay for 15 days at the moment. Are there any decent places to be rented for that money and for that time? Of course easy access to the MRT and/or BTS is a plus. And she would also like a place with swimming pool...
ChristopherWilliamsBKK Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Cheap rooms cost 1000-5000bt, but 2 months deposit is normally needed. So you're friend would lose her deposit. 500bt per night (7500 for 2 weeks) she can get a room in a budget place which has a pool. What part of BKK does she want to stay in?

She doesn't really have any particular area in mind; but I think that the closer to the city center the better. Perhaps around Din Daeng, Ratchadaphisek or Lad Phrao would be a good compromise between being close to the center, having access to transportation and being able to find reasonable prices.
trogers Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 A foreign lady staying alone in a Bt1000-5000/mth apartment? Has security been an important consideration when setting the budget?
ChristopherWilliamsBKK Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Ekkamai 23 Hi Tech Tower 500bt per night including breakfast with a pool on the roof and a gym Nothing flashy but can pay daily and get around from there easily. http://grandhitechtower.com/
JAS21 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Pom Petch Hotel...I think that is how you spell it....Close to Ngam Wong Wan Mall (just across the crossroads) opposite Tesco/Lotus....I think is about 650Baht/night inc breakfast. We stayed there many years ago..it was OK...I don't think a pool though. I can look the phone number up if you may be interested, next time we drive past.

It does only list rental prices per month, you say they also rent per night? Thanks a lot everyone!
CharlieH Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 5000 a month ? = 180 baht a night !! ........theres budget and theres stupid !...........Good luck with your search but at less than 200 baht a night I would be VERY careful what you end up with.

You would be surprised. I have a friend renting a whole townhouse outside Bangkok for about 6000 Baht per month. Three years ago I was living in an apartment in Udomsuk road for 4000 Baht a month. It was twice the size of the serviced apartment I'm living currently living at (and paying more that three times as much) and apart from the building being 10 or 15 years old and showing it, it was a perfectly fine place to live. I finally moved because it was too far from my work place. The thing is that particular place has a minimum of 6 months rent contracts, so it's not good for my friend. Of course I'm not talking luxury, just an acceptable middle class type of accommodation.

Nonsense. I'll just post here as I'm looking for something similar. Right now I've been staying in guesthouses so far, but I'm planning to stay for at least a half year and therefore looking for something else. And I'm getting fed up with being treated as a stupid farang cash-machine in the khao san area. But just to explain. Right now I'm staying a guesthouse for 120 baht a night. It's like 16m2 with windows, a desk and everything. No airco, but so far I've been fine with it. It's clean as well. The only thing I lack is wifi and power-plug, plus of course the neighbourhood is a bit annoying to live. Other than that it's perfect. It should be possible to find a similar place for just 3000 baht a month. There must be plenty that fits my requirements, but it's a bit harder to find as a non-Thai person. All the stuff you find on English websites and craigslist is catered to expats that are willing to spend around the 15000 baht range. I've seen single rooms before of 6000 baht and it's bigger than anything I've ever lived in. It might sound a bit crazy, considering the living here is much cheaper than West-Europe, but I really feel no need for more than 20m2, a television and hot water. I've not came here in Thailand to stay around in my own apartment all the time, and when it's too luxurious, I'll be tempted. Plus, the less I'm monthly costs I have the more freedom I'll be having. Anyway. If someone knows something, please tell me. For me a 6 month contract is okay.
jdinasia Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I just did a search on mrroomfinder and there were 366 listings for 5000 baht/mo or less, just for BKK

Opposite All Star Sports Complex in the Soi beside the Family Mart is a complex at 3,500 a month - vert clean and some apartments new - furnished. This is in Ramkhamhaeng 39 or the Laos Embassy Street at Wangthonlang (also knowns as Soi Sahakharnpramoon). Quiet Soi and good value. You would be a hop step and a jump to the extension of Ekkamai or a 50 Baht taxi to the Thailand Cutlural Centre MRT. At 10 Baht motorbike taxi to Lad Prao 80. There are plenty if you look. Go up market to 6,500 baht a month and a new complex furnished is VK Mansion also in Ramkhamhaeng 39. http://en.hongpak.in.th/Accommodation/Mansion/730
ChristopherWilliamsBKK Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I rent a 4 storey shophouse off Soi 22 272 m2 7000bt per month. You have to speak Thai - and you have to know the score.

That is why cost of land and cost of housing becomes progressively more expensive towards the CBD, a phenomenon seen in all major cities - like seats in a popular concert.
thedistillers Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 No need to stay for a month; you can get a good idea of how Bangkok is like after 3 days. If she really wants to go to Thailand for a month, she should go to Chiang Mai with that budget. But really, she should stay home and work.
homeslice Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 For multiple options try the Tee-pak.com website. If you need a place to land quickly go to Phet place in Nonthaburi. They have rooms for 4500 with a pool. The Mrt is not far and bus service is great.

AleG Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 I would be interested in that townhouse since I work at home. You say outside Bangkok. Exactly whereabouts? Is it furnished, etc.? I will appreciate that information and your friend's phone number. Feel free to message me, please! Pisico :jap: I met my friend at lunch and asked him about it; the house is en Bang Saen and actually he was paying 3000 Baht per month a few years ago. A simple Thai style two storey house, no A/C, wood construction, etc... Your average Thai house in short. Sorry I couldn't get an address but I'm sure places like this for rent are not uncommon in Thailand.
