World wide police operation against child sexual abusers links to Thailand

PATTAYA: -- Several arrests in Pattaya have been linked to ‘Operation Rescue’ which involved world wide police swoops on child sex abusers and members of a site called ‘Boy Lover’.

Some of the details were released at a press conference held by Europol in The Hague yesterday. Included in the details were foreigners arrested in Pattaya in a series of raids in which suspected child abusers were first arrested – and then later released after foreign police had left.

Maybe I am too tired to understand but the next paragraph says:

What does "finally" mean? Did it take more than a decade for sentencing.... and how are we going back in time when the insinuation was he was just let go in this current raid.

Are they using this guy as an example of previous arrests or did he somehow serve his 14 years in jail this past year

If he was out on bail then I think they would have mentioned this but the story seems to jump around in terms of time frames as well as starting off rather strangely saying of the 70,000 members dozens were in Thailand or visit Thailand ... dozens out of 70k doesn't really sound like this is a Thai based issue.

I would expect a more clear article from an English speaking reporter. This rates below translated articles from The Nation.

I agree. The "time frames" are doing my head in too! Was trying to remember just how many drinks I had last night when I read your post and realized I'm not the only one who is confused. How can any "writer" publish an article like this? Tends to deflect from what is a very serious issue. I don't understand too, how all these well known repeat sex offenders and criminals are still able to enter Thailand and stay here so easily, when the the rest of us normal folks with no "ulterior motives" have trouble just getting a visa let alone stay here..............

Unfortunately, that's what he is about - sensationalism. Negative stories sell. Apart from the usual suspects, he doesn't have the splendid reputation of a respectable journalist and writer.

Was there some posts deleted? I missed the ones that bash Drummond because Thailand (as many poor/developing countries) have issues with child sexual abuse.

However, it would seem if you read the actual news report of this story at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1366824/Global-paedophile-ring-smashed-British-detectives-120-arrested-UK.html then you might see that it took some effort to make this about Thailand as well as go on and on about a guy Drummond reported on in the past who is already serving a 14-year sentence. The real news story on this starts off by saying this was a multi year investigation and a number of people being charged are already in jail.

No doubt Thailand has issues and will continue to improve these issues as they relate to abuse of children but stories written like this do little to help since the facts are not reported correctly leaving making the writer lack credibility. I realize this is a subject Drummond loves to write about but I think there are enough real stories out there to write about to help bring attention to the problem as opposed to slanting this story to be about Thailand when in fact very little of it pertains to Thailand. Nothing wrong with reporting this and mentioning a connection but all the added crap just misleads.

One cannot be sure of the facts based on his writings but it would seem the big news as it pertains to Thailand is that this Horsman guy who is already serving a 14-year sentence (old news) has some added charges of possessing child porn because of this European global sting. He mentions two other people being arrested with Horsman in Thailand but best I can tell this was also a over a year ago and not related to this recent operation.
