5-Star Polluter

Recommended Posts

I was visiting a friend in the area of the < Removed > and was amazed at the rubbish that they have dumped along the road in front of the employees parking. The entrance for the paying customers is about 100 meters before all this, so they probably don't even notice it, but it is telling when you have a 5-Star resort with a minimum bungalow rate of THB 28,850.00 (yes, that is the cheapie room) per night showing such abject disregard for the environment and other visitors and residents in the area.

I asked my friend about how long this had been going on and it appears that the dumping started a few months ago, with the latest addition being the used golf cart tires. There is also a huge mountain of broken and partially broken cement blocks which is in the distance of the attached photos.

I suppose a person could go 'round there and tell them to clean this up, and get the usual, "Yeah, yeah," and, "We'll get right on it!" and have nothing happen, but what I'd like to see is the area cleaned, of course, but the resort heavily fined for their dumping (which as you can see, is spilling onto the road).

Does anyone know the office where one might go to file a complaint, which would result in actual action taken?

Do this resort use golf carts at their place? only it looks like a lot of tyres to me.

ALL establishments regardless of size should take responsibility of keeping their area clean and tidy.

Probably using the "just waiting for someone to pick it up" technique suggested in an earlier post!annoyed.gif

is there any proof that they are dumping this? could it not be somone else dumping on the hope they will just ' clear it up ' ??? , as the other poster mentioned, far to many golf buggy wheels for one resort...

just to note, samui golf and country club is also near by, and have a connection with a resort nr there ..... could they be dumping there? ...

I am sure that the tyres are from there. The grounds are huge and the only way to get around, so I am told, is by golf cart. For upwards of US$1,000 a night, I would expect that each guest has his own cart to go back and forth from the beach to the hillside bungalows and the restaurants, of which there are two or three, I believe.

Oh, and remember that one cart gives off four tyres....so that pile doesn't represent all that many carts.

wow $1,000 a night, I'd want a fortuner, a pair of lesbians to warm the bed, a fridge full of pink champagne, massage ladies on tap and gold leaf everything. err except a rubbish dump next door.

without proof, Thaivisa could be laible for defamation .

I personally think they would be the last place to ruin the enviroment,

just my 2 cents, as i see many high end hotels have stuffed dumped outside as people know it would be cleaned up by them

As per forum rules and the previous edit, please do not name the resort, Boater has a point, we'd hate to have to turn your information over to the police on a criminal defamation charge. cheers.

I know that the Thai Hotels Association (THA) would be absolutely furious and would bring pressure to bear immediately. (Currently they have a strong influence with the local government as well as other concerned Thai owners.)

I'll send you a PM with some names ...

  • 3 weeks later...

The alleged resort has (and this is not alleged as I saw it myself) added more debris to the pile some days ago, before the rains. I send emails to some local luminaries on the issue, but silence reigns.

I would absolutely welcome this move. It's a slam dunk. No matter what bizarre definition of "defamation" you come up with, there are scores of workers and local residents who can attest to who is dumping what where. If you think defamation is telling the truth about someone dumping trash, leftovers from the fence a few meters away and tree cuttings by the gardening company whose truck and workers are parked right there, bring it on.

And to Boater, it is 100% this resort, not someone bringing in rubbish from anywhere else.

I find this situation telling in many ways, one of which is the total lack of interest of anyone or anything outside of the resort itself. There is no way that the management is not aware of this, but clearly, they don't care.
