A 16-year-old girl, missing for nearly three months, was discovered working in a bar in Pattaya, raising concerns about underage employment and exploitation.

On 10 November at 10:06 p.m., Pattaya Police Station received a report from family members who had located "Biu" (a pseudonym) in a bar on Buakhao Soi in Chonburi. Concerned about her welfare, they contacted the police, suspecting she had been lured into illegal work.

Upon receiving the report, Police Lieutenant Thanavee Yarangsi and a specialised task force arrived at the bar. There, the family confronted the staff, questioning why they had employed a minor.

Video evidence from the family showed "Biu" seated at the bar, engaging in activities such as drinking, which are illegal for minors. Initial explanations from the bar staff varied, with some claiming she had used fake identification, while others stated she was merely a visitor.

"Buut" (a pseudonym), the girl’s mother, shared her anguish with the police, explaining that she had been desperately searching for her daughter for months.

She expressed her dismay upon seeing her daughter allegedly serving drinks and participating in adult activities. She urged authorities to hold the bar accountable, hoping to prevent similar incidents.

Following the investigation, the bar's manager, 30-year-old Jetwiwat, was detained and faces multiple charges, including employing a minor in a restricted venue, allowing immoral behaviour, supplying alcohol to a minor, and breaching child protection and labour laws.

Authorities are also seeking the bar's actual owner for further legal action and are considering suspending the venue’s licence.

Police Chief Colonel Navin Teerawit of Pattaya Police urged local entertainment venues to adhere strictly to regulations. He warned that any violations, particularly involving underage employees or activities, would be met with severe consequences, reported Sanook.

Would make sense to shut down Pattaya altogether..

Phuket would be a better option, full of sex workers there, more than Pattaya in fact

Obviously, that also brings up the question why the daughter run away from the mother.

How many teenagers would do that if they would feel comfortable at home?

Let's hear what you think.

There are sex workers in every Thai town/city!  What do you think all those karaoke bars with 'twinkling' lights are about?

I know but Phuket has more than anywhere else

Why was the girl running away from home??? Who put her in the bar?? just a few questions to be answered.. Not always the girls fauly as is being suggested.. loverboys are also active here in Thailand... But the bar owner is responsible for these underage working girls as waitress or whatever...  They have to show an id card at least and if doubts, contact the police or parents .....Shame
