you can keep your social security health insurance after you leave your thai job

currently i am registered at queen siraket (spelling) but i understand sri racha has better hospitals after reading many posts here

i asked what i can choose from (in sir rachca)

so besides queen siraket in satahip

i was told i can choose payathai in sir racha or another named queen in sir rachca

question

what is the best govt hospital in chonburi province in regards to quality and honesty in care service and well i guess charges too in case something is not covered

currently i reside in pattaya

should i even consider the local hospital in lamchabang?

what about the hospital on soi bouy cow?

is it govt?

when will it be open?

thank you very much in advance

1. Phyathai is a private hospital, not a government hospital.

2. The only government hospitals in Chonburi you should even consider having anything to do with would be the provincial hospital in Chonburi town or a military hospital.

AFAIK among government hospitals, the one where you are currently registered (Queen Sirikit) offers the best level and quality of care. It is also apt to have a wider range of specialists than Phyathai Sri Racha, altho Phyathai isn't bad for non-specialty care.

thanks so mcuh sheryl

i asked the lady at ss on the phone

and she mentioned Phyathai as one of my options

perhaps a misunderstanding somewhere

in an emergency sri racha is easier to get too from pattaya then satahip

plus closer to bangkok

if i recall correctly

i read some posts here stating si racha hosptial(s) as the best available locally

hmmmmmmm

thanks again

Well, possibly Phyathai Sri racha has, despite being private, agreed to be in the Social Security scheme. if they are having a problem with low utilization doing so might make sense for them economically (and they might then leave the scheme later once business has picked up).

Regardless, I think you are in the best hands being at Queen Sirikit and certainly will have a wider range of specialties availabe to you.

An interesting question, to which I do not know the answer, is whether the Thai Social Security sc heme will cover emergency care at a hospital other than the one you are registered at. One would think they'd have some arrangement for this, just as private insurance usually does. Perhaps some other members can advise.

i will check again to make sure Phyathai Sri racha is an option

so far all of my research from posts on TV are pointing me in that direction

if i change i must do so by march 31

however your feedback and suggestion to stay with queen sirikeet in satahip has thrown me for a loop

i will continue my research and if i am inclined post what i find

thanks again so much for your time and info

sheryl

thank you so much once again for your helpful posts here and elsewhere

yes i believe there is some emergency care/system in place

a very good point i will hopefully follow up on

i reread all the posts here and you highly recommend queen serekit in satahip over anything in sri racha

my question is what is the best hospital i should register with (in chonburi province)

(maybe it would be better to register with another in bkk or elsewhere if that is an option)

and so far i have only your answer as the most recent on TV

i called ss again today

since march 31 tomorrow is the last date if i want to change

i talked to someone else who spoke some english

she said i can keep mine or my choices in sri racha are parathai (yes private) or somdetna (spelling)

i asked her about the best choice and she conferred it is not easy to answer but said she choose qeen siriket though she lives closer to there than i do

she added this:

if i choose somdetna i have (many) clinics in pattaya i can go to

at first she said you pay and get reimbursed but then she said if you have a ss card you get free service (T.I.T.)

is this an option worth taking or am i shooting myself in the foot?

sounds good if i want some local care but who knows the quality of that care and the quality of that hospital should i need it and i am yet to know the location of the clinics available in pattaya

another thing

after reading so many hospital posts here

i am under the impression with regards to hospitals

things have changed and are changing all of the time

and the care can vary greatly at the same place

so is queen sireket currently the best choice in chonuri province that is covered under the ss plan?

(i know i sound like a broken record / cd player)

she also said in the govt hospitals there is a separate waiting room for ss clients so you dont have to wait as long

sounds good but also sounds a bit like hogwash

thanks again for all of your help and feedback in making this important decision soon

final note

i am in my fifties, fit, pretty darn good shape and health, take pretty good care of self

but not getting any younger and am approaching the point where emergency or chronic care should be planned for

as anything can happen

GOD FORBID

KNOCK ON WOOD

:jap:

ps i highly encourage expats who work here to look into keeping there thai ss when they stop work

for a little over 400 baht a month

i dont see how you can possible beat it!

I would stay registered with your hospital in Sataheab, there facilities far out way Somdet Siraacha, a bit further to go from Pattaya but worth it.

thanks

and can you compare queen siraket satahpeep (govt) with sir racha pirathai (private)

(sorry for the spelling)

Queen Sirikit, being a government hospital, will be less convenient in terms of red tape and waits (in non-urgent situations) but has a much larger range of specialists and overall higher level of care. Phyathai, being private, offers fixed time appointments, shorter waits, and more creature comforts.

There will be no problem using Phyathai for simple problems but there is a risk, should you require highly specialized care, of not being able to access an appropriate specialist of high caliber. Unless there is some arrangement whereby they would refer you to phaythai2 in Bangkok, I doubt you could receive for example cardiac surgery or intervention (e.g. stent).

Military hospitals in Thailand have a very high standard of care and are able to offer the full range of specialty services.

As for clinics/small hospitals within Pattaya, do not even think about it.
