FF4 interface is highly customizable.

This is why I think it will be my browser of choice for a long time. Got the FF4 > Chrome (switch to app) installed just in case on odd web sites, and I like the auto translate foreign languages in Chrome (does FF have this - I notice FoxLingo but find it easier to switch out to Chrome for web page translations?) - I haven't even bothered with IE download.

I tried FF4 and must admit it renders websites very quickly.

But I miss the way Chrome opens my bookmark bar when I open a new tab and close it again when a page loads. It's the ultimate in preserving screen real estate for me.

I am told FF4 have more extensions, but I have everything I need in Chrome.

Ctrl B does not make a sidebar for me... I can pull up favorites/bookmarks a few ways... what I would like is a sidebar.

Firefox also does not seem any faster than my IE 9.

I haven't been able to find out yet how to pin the Bookmarks like a sidebar.

Ctrl B is your friend.

Thank you for posting that image, Supernova. I will try to install FF4 on this machine and see if I can get that. When I tried it on my Windows 7 machine it did not put it as a sidebar and I couldn't find anything to pin the dialog box that came up. I'll post the results once I get FF4 on this Vista 32 machine.

Thanks again,

Digitalbanana and Supernova,

Ok! Thanks! When I installed FF4 on this Vista 32 bit computer, then did the Ctrl B, the bookmarks came up as a sidebar. I don't know why it comes up as a dialog box on my Win 7 64 bit computer. I will try to check it when I get back to my home.

There have been many reports that FF4 does not work properly in 64 bit mode. Somewhere I read something about in installs both 32 bit and 64 bit components in Windows 7 64 bit and you can force it to work as a 32 bit only app which appears to fix the problems. Check Google.

Did you try Rockmelt ?

I use it on the netbook, when on the go...

Otherwise, I am quite happy with FF4 at home.

The 64 bit problem child is IE9. Microsoft can not even get there own application to work in it.

I have 64 bit Windows 7 and FF4 display is the same as posted above using CTRL+B.

Yeah I think Rockmelt was discussed in another topic some time ago.

Isn't it just Chrome with some social network tools bolted on? Their website seems to suggest that.

Digital Banana and Supernova,

When I got back to my house I started my 64bit machine and opened FF4 without connecting to the internet. I did the Ctrl B and it put Bookmarks as a Sidebar.

Thanks again,

There is no 64-bit FF. One should load the 32-bit version on Win7 64-bit o/s.

Tried FF 4 this morning, not for me yet...

downgrading was a PITA due to no DL link.

!'st here:

http://www.mozilla.c.../all-older.html

here I click "US English" ... no auto-DL ... get this page instead...

http://www.mozilla.c...=win〈=en-US

no link here to DL either.

so tried "open in new tab", same thing.

There is no download on that page. Very odd.

Back to that "all-older page", I decided to try "UK English".

It worked, both for "click" and "open in a new tab".

OK, likely just a oversight (or a conspiracy theory)

So I just modified the DL url from the "UK English"

this

http://download.mozi...=win〈=en-GB

to this

http://download.mozi...=win〈=en-US

and it downloaded.

I simply installed on top of FF v4.

Worked.

Then applied my backup of bookmarks and extensions.

- you do have a backup, don't you :)...

I use MozBackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Done. Put a fork in it.

Cheers

Hi All

Have downloaded FF4 but nowhere can I see the secure site golden lock or anything like it for example when signing in with internet banking.

FF3 had it or am I missing something?

Thanks

I'm still hanging on to XP. Tried vista and 7 , but didn't like them.

Always used Firefox, but the 3.6 version puts bitmap files of jpeg photo's

you download from websites, in your temp file and these big bitmap

files don't go away by them selves.

So sticking to 3.5.17.

My question for XP users: has this problem been solved in FF 4?

thanks
