Lower Hamstring

Featured Replies

Very upset and worried. Running means a lot to me and (having trawled the net) I'm worried that I've got a grade 3 hamstring injury and it's too late to do anything.

16 days ago I came up really sharp after fully extending my foot as if to make a tackle in soccer, with a nasty stabbing and burning cramp feeling behind the knee on the outside and as it progressed the whole hamstring and some of the calf felt very sore and the upper calf too, and I was unable to get walk much. After a couple of days I had a numb feeling on the outside just above and at the back of my knee. Quite a big blood bruise appeared just above and below my knee.

A few days ago I slipped coming out the bathroom and came up sharp which started e limping again but this has gone away.

I'm now walking ok but feel a twinge when walking up stairs, but the area is very stiff and I can't pull my heel up to my backside completely. If I was on my knees I couldn't sit back so that my backside lay on my feet.

When I sit down on a chair the muscle feels tight and swollen and about 2" behind the crease of my knee (going up) there feels like a small lump as if someone put a marble in the muscle. However this is going down. Needless to say the bruising has gone away, except for a curious couple of small purple patches in my calf.

I'm a bit scared of cramp as the muscle goes tawt and twitchy from time to time.

Anyway that is the run down.

Would appreciate some help- I'm honestly feeling hamstrung.
