Thaksin has selected Pheu Thai's PM candidate: Apiwan

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has selected the Pheu Thai Party's PM candidate, Thai Rath Online report.

Thai Rath Online quoted Deputy House Speaker Apiwan Wiriyachai as saying that the four candidates earlier mentioned were only decoys.

Apiwan said Thaksin would announce the real candidate once the House is dissolved.

He said the real candidate is not Pheu Thai chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, Pheu Thai party-list MP Mingkwan Saengsuwan, ex-Pheu Thai MP Chalerm Yoobamrung or Yinglak Shinawatra, a sister of Thaksin.

Someone who is not on the "excluded as a decoy" list and was discussed last year as a potential candidate.

His ready-made campaign slogan is a real winner...

quick.... slap a copyright on that. It's a sure-fire winning campaign slogan.

Yinglak, Mingkwan's 'not Thaksin's choice'

By The Nation

Chalerm has recently resigned as a Pheu Thai MP out of dissatisfaction that he was not favoured by Thaksin as a choice of PM candidate.

Apiwan said he has recently talked to Thaksin and he is confident that the four are not Thaksin's choice.

"His choice is another person whose name will be withheld for now … he will announce the name once the House is dissolved," Apiwan said.

He said if anyone would like to know who is Thaksin's choice, he or she could ask Chavalit or former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat.

Apiwan added that Yongyuth Wichaidit would remain the party leader because the PM's candidate does not have to be the party's leader.

If the Organic laws are not passed (the EC believes that they won't be due to pressure from an unamed source...this led to last week's resignation of one of their leaders) then the election will be held un section7 of the Constitution which allows under certain circumstances there to be an unelected PM. Thaksin is banned until 2012 but the leader could still be someone else outside of Parliament. Newin Chidchob of Bumjumthai also hopes to become leader of the coalition in due course.

The EC leader (Sodisri??) didn't resign.

The election wouldn't need to be held under Section 7 of the constitution. The Section states that the PM is appointed. There would be no election.

But there is no need to appoint anyone ( yet ), since the parliament hasn't been dissolved.

Chiang Mai red shirts to set up new party

The red shirts in Chiang Mai will next week form a new party intended as a spare in a contingency plan should the Pheu Thai Party be disbanded following the poll.

"The new party is to be named Pheu Tham," Chiang Mai red leader Phetchawat Wattanapongsirikul said Monday.

Phetchawat said senior figures in the red-shirt movement asked him to spearhead the new party due to speculation about an intervention to deny the Pheu Thai victory.

"the new party intended as a spare"... like a tire in your trunk

btw, the Chiang Mai Red Shirt Leader just last week turned himself in after being a fugitive from the law for various crimes... sounds perfect to become a new Party Leader.

Fugitive Rak Chiang Mai 51 leader surrenders to police

A Rak Chiang Mai 51 Group member, one of the core leaders of the group, surrendered to the police station in Mae Ping on March 21, 2011. He denied all charges and was released on 100,000 baht bail. Phetchawat Wattanapongsirikul fled to another country in January when he was initially charged with violating national security and damaging government buildings during the political riots last year. He surrendered to Pol Lt Col Ithirat Sanpanya of the Mae Ping Police Station, after an arrest warrant was issued for him in January. At the police station, Phetchawat was met by about 100 red shirt supporters. Phetchawat was accused of invading and destroying government offices.

After his release on bail he said he will fight against the charges, adding that he surrendered to the authorities because he was asked by ‘Pu Lak Pu Yai’ (influential and senior persons) who suggested it to him since the general elections are expected soon.

Former Deputy Leader of Pheu Thai Party on Short List for Premiership

Former Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, Panpri Pahittanukorn is speculated to be on the Opposition's short list of top candidates for prime minister.

It has been rumored that the Pheu Thai Party is writing up a list of its top candidates for prime minister.

Some of the names that are speculated to be on the list are President of the Pheu Thai Party, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, List MP Mingkwan Sangsuwan, Chalerm Yoobamrung and Yingluck Shinawatra, the younger sister of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

According to some reports, Former Deputy Pheu Thai Leader Panpri Pahittanukorn is also on the list. Panpri was also Thailand's Trade Representative during the Thaskin administration.

However, Pheu Thai Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit said that the list has not been finalized as there are many big names, who are also interested in running on the party's ticket in the next general election.

Yesterday, Pheu Thai MP Surapong Towijakchaikul from Chiang Mai Province said that the topic of the party's candidates for premiership has been raised by some MPs. Surapong expressed his endorsement of Panpri, saying that he comes from the new generation and that his candidacy would be a positive move for the party.

The Chiang Mai MP also boasted that Panpri is even better looking than Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva while also having more experience working with Pheu Thai Party's economic team.

Surapong also believes that Panpri would be a suitable choice in promoting a national reconciliation.

'True democracy', which has one man picking the party-leader, and potentially the next PM of the country.

Compared to the way the NPP wants to consult widely, within its members and regional-organisers, before deciding whether or not to contest the coming election.

Which of the two, PTP or NPP, is the more democratic ? :whistling:

My money is on the decoy party ploy, works well with the decoy candidate ploy, Tacky will be the candidate, doesnt matter if he is banned, then move the country to transylvania, where mental illness can be treated better. Also does not have any prisons, so he wont go to jail, simple plan, like Thaksin.

The electorate will make the decision in a "true democracy". Looks like NPP has some issues with elections and does maybe not contest. :whistling:

:partytime2: :partytime2: :partytime2: Ahhhh well - just think of all the things we have to look forward to as the election approaches. A new red riot, Thaksins dithering, twitching face on giant screens and a new bunch of gaffs from him to be posted on Youtube. Then theres selling votes, rigged campaigns, threatening and abuse to those voters foolish enough to expect fair elections, as well as death threats in Isan just like the last time for those not following the red rabble party line. And all in the name of democracy!!

Thank you for all youve done and will continue to do Khun Shinawatra!!!!
