'Senior Gaddafi aid visited London for secret talks on exit strategy'

LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- A senior aid of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, has recently visited England for secret talks on an exit strategy for the Libyan leader and his family, the BBC reported on Friday.

BBC diplomatic correspondent James Robbins said the aid, Mohammed Ismail, visited London this week to explore a possible exit strategy for Gaddafi and his family. Robbins said it was not clear on whose authority Ismail had been in London, but said the aid has since returned to Tripoli.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice has told Al Arabiya Television that the U.N.-sanctioned no-fly zone over Libya would not stop Gaddafi if he decides to leave Libya. The channel gave no other details.

Libya is currently in the midst of a civil war which has so far claimed at least 1,000 and as many as 10,000 lives. Government-led attacks on rebels have included aerial bombardments, leading to a United Nations Security Council Resolution that imposed a no-fly zone over the Northern African nation.
