Stainless Steel Rice Cooker

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where we can find a stainless steel rice cooker in Bangkok? We know there are millions of rice cookers but it is hard to find one with the stainless steel pot inside.

Thanks so much!

Sorry, but unless you know different, I don't think you will find one. Stainless would be very difficult to clean, also the rice would probably stick to it and maybe burn. I think you will find that is why Teflon is mainly used. There are plenty around that are stainless on the outside though. So sorry not any help really.

May be difficult to find but some companies do make. If they don't carry them at Emporium then give Tokyu department store at MBK a try.

i have seen them in kitchens but why would you want one when a coated pot is far better to cook rice in, at least the rice wont stick to the plate after lying there all day.

If the goal is to avoid the health risks associated with teflon, then you may be able to find Chinese rice cookers with a clay pot inside. That's what we use. I have not heard of any health risks with the clay pots, but that's not impossible either.

The only stainless steel ones I have seen are the cheaper ones. I know you can find them at Robinsons.

Edit: Now that I think about it they are probably aluminum and not stainless steel.

I also think there should be no concern with using Teflon in a rice cooker. As far as I know the only claimed dangers of a Teflon coated pan are when you burn them. At somewhere above 600F / 300C they release a gas. I would think a rice cooker never gets much hotter than 212F / 100C

the very first generation of rice cooker was ALUMINUM inner pot, but indeed sticks everything and uneven heating / cooking.

there are 'super highend' Japanese ricecookers are stainless steel. Japanese makes it for cooking sushi rice, no one else spends USD300 for a rice cooker.

Teflon in rice cooker is relatively safe, yeah lower temperature. check no scratch, otherwise replace the inner pot as spare part.
