Local Knowledge Wanted For Uk Television Documentary

We are looking for an english speaking local/Ex-pat who can act as a guide for our presenter on Thai Culture for an alternative travel programme for Sky 1 in the UK.

We are looking for someone who is fun, full of energy, knows Bangkok well and could show our presenter some of the more unusual / bizarre sights in the city aswell as explain Thai culture to someone from the UK who has never been here before.

I am currently in Bangkok and am keen to hear from anyone interested ASAP. Please contact me [via pm]

Kind regards,

Stuart

Ah, you're looking for an expert in sleaze.

Bangkok is representative of city culture, not Thai culture.

right, so you are looking for someone to show you about, so that you can produce a piece which will thoroughly trash the reputation of the place.

You've come to the right place then!

Right.

This sounds like another Thailand bashing load of docu mental ry.

And what about work permits for the farang who is probably going to get him/herself banned from Thailand for participating in this TV programme?. Or is this going to be an undercover of sleaze project?

You need to buy a copy of Lonely Planet Thailand.

Someone just send him a map of BKK with Nana and Soi Cowboy marked on them....:whistling:

But think the OP has come to the right place, plenty of farangs on TV who are at one with their Thainess, and are desperate to show they are more Thai than Thai's....:jap:

An 'alternative' travel progeamme

believe me all the guys who know about Thailand dont need to be told about the "alternative" part of it ,they have already seen it ,or read about it in other missinformed travel documentrys .

Thai culture? Bangkok? Walk around Siam Paragon, see the spoiled Hi-So's and then walk around Patpong at night and cowboy/nana, finished. If it was about thai culture only 5minutes of it would be in BKK and you certainly wouldn't need someone to guide.

I hope no one signs up to help you.

It all sounds very shallow.

There is enough c*ap on You Tube about Thailand to "entertain alternatively".

As already posted - Thai culture is not about BKK.

Come on Samran we dont all hate Thailand. I love it here but i do speak out against things that I don't like and many seem to think one should not do that. I voiced my opinions about the bad stuff in my home country too even more vocal then here. But here its more an us against them sometimes but that is not how i feel.

How about we move this over to the Bangkok Forum??? Good luck! :)

Should have moved it to the SEA forum. Maybe one of the Cambodian or VN based expats would be better motivated to get involved in another Thailand expose.....for a price of course....

no need to go so far

just get one of the redhead thaksin lovers from up north to deal with it

they seem to hate Bangkok enough to be able to satisfy this persons needs

maybe the could tour the sites where the red revolution fell flat on its arse.............

The comments from the TV regulars are probably right .... but an open minded documentary with an expat who really enjoys living in Thailand and accepts all the ups and downs with good humour could be a very watchable programme? Most of us have our favourite places that are not in the tourist guides.

As part of our business in Thailand we often show customers around the city, and although I'm no expert on Thailand - I join our Thai managers when we show visitors around. We often start on the river with a long tail boat spin around the klongs, then do a food market and eat in an open air restaurant where we try a selection of local foods. We'll only cover one temple - proabably Wat Po then we can sit with the Thai couples and watch the sun-set over Wat Arun. The fashion markets in Siam Square next (Little Siam has some really unusual designs) ... then a blow-out at After You, Siam Paragon to try the desserts and people watch. Along the Sky Walk to Amarin Shrine - explain about spirit houses. We'll then use the river taxi and a tuk-tuk or motorsai to see how the locals get about and head to Soi 5 to 11 - smoke an apple flavoured nargileh with a coffee, try some Indian snacks. Then sample some Thai live music in Jet, Ekkamai or some Jazz at the amazing Iron Fary in Thong Lor or rock music in Mojo's ... or the all girl band in Titanium, or chill out to some blues at Saxophone. If the visitors have the energy ... an all nighter in a Thai club on Phetburi or the V8 Cafe/Insomnia combo on Sukhumvit finishes off a day to remember.

The TV regular must know some great Thai restaurants, markets and unusual bars .... many more than me .... how about some suggestions to help the producer make a real alternative programme? Lets be honest - Cowboy/Nana is hardly alternative travel these days .. and does not reflect ex-pat living.

just cant imagine sky 1 doing anything other than some real trash expose tbh

I guess you are right ..... but it's a shame .... the city is so much more than that.

Perhaps the OP could clarify the aims?

so many tv programs on sky like magaluf uncovered and so on, its just hard to see them making anything else. i can only see it being a show about brits fighting, shagging lady boys etc.....

Jasus.. do you actually read what you write.. ? Why do you get so worked up about Thai politics when you can do absolutely nothing about it ??

Anyway, the chances are the person who chooses to take up this offer will be portrayed in the documentary as a sex sleazebag along with all the other <deleted>, let face it.. it's likely to be a bloke..

---snip---

Being able to do absolutely nothing about it seems a pretty good reason to be worked up.

As far as this guide goes - remember this would constitute work and thus require a work permit, which they won't get because "guide" is (IIRC) on the list of banned occupations.

But that is nit-picking really - I just mentioned it so my post wouldn't be completely off topic.

If you want the right people please contact me through messages. Not in open forum here. I can give you male, female and well experienced, multi lingual, zany, great on camera and I can point you to comp cards and agents who handle this. These people all have experience as well. I need a casting brief as well and some indication shot lists, or treatment, eps et al.

Jeez there's some cynics on here. He hasn't asked for anyone to show the local sleaze scene, just for sights not normally included in the travel guides.

And they would be?

Thank you all for your very 'interesting' posts.

Unfortunately I am unable to reply to you all individually as I am running around filming and have now left Bangkok. Thank you for those who got in touch and the very many of you who suggested the night Flower Market. Stunning. Is there a petition to stop it being modernised?

Kind regards,

Stuart
