i may be going to Thailand in july 2006 for the 1st time, i have been told 2 stories about drinking/purchasing alcohol.

1. there is no age at all

2. you have to be 18 to drink

as i am under 18 i would realy like to know what the true story is so that i can bring the right amount of holiday money accordingly, thanks

18 years of age. Mostly not enforced, but we have had stories about underage tourists beeing caught.

You sure about that George? - seen gals not allowed in discos because they weren't 20. (thought legal age for alcohol)

Think Brits right George, its 20 yrs old.

18 yrs old and coming to Thailand, what a buzz. Very unlikely you'll be caught underage drinking, it will depend more on the area you hangout in than anything. If you get caught, be a small fine and that should be it though I expect they could prosecute you for more I doubt they would even bother.

There should be a maximum age limit too.

No boozing after 55 years of age (in a built up area)

I was wrong, the legal age is 20. Thai or foreigner, same same. Sorry for the confusion.

Didn't we have the story recently of a 19yo Singaporean girl arrested in silom for being in a bar,and her mother played up to the papers.

George.Can you tell me your source for the Age 20.

As I have seen on a number of web sites that it is 18.

On other sites 17 even and a couple no limit.

I have also seen it in The Nation saying the age limit is 18

Could the drinking age and the legal age for going in a bar be different as this is Thailand
