I am looking at applying for a retirement visa in Hull,England.

I note that,to be recognised, funds need to be held in a Thai bank for 3 months.

Is it possible to open a Thai bank account in the UK,Deposit the £ sterling equivalent of 800,000 baht in the account and for this to be recognised as valid by the thai visa section in the UK ?

Many Thanks in advance

If applying for a "Retirement Visa" Non Imm O-A Visa.

Hull cannot issue. Only The Thai Embassy in London can issue this. The money can be in a UK bank.

If applying for a Non Imm O Visa then Hull can issue.

You then travel to Thailand and open a bank account, deposit the 800,000 Baht and apply for a 12 month extension once the money has been in the bank for 2 months.

You can not apply for such a visa at Hull as they are not authorized to issue the non immigrant O-A visa. Only the Embassy in London can do so. And there is no need for a Thai bank account - you just prove income/cash in home country and provide medical and police reports.

For one year extensions of stay inside Thailand the money would have to be in a Thai bank account for two months the first time and three months each year thereafter.

If you can show the equivalent of 65,000 bhat coming into an account from abroad, per month, just once in the year, like I do as a Canadian living here on a retirement visa, I show the Canadian Embassy in Thailand that I have made a deposit (from a savings account Interest earning) into another account, chekqing) I take a copy of the deposit to the embassy here in Thailand and they give me a letter for Immigration here stating that I have the required Income, Immigration here issues a one year retirement visa.

Saves you having to deposit 800,000 bhat in a Thai bank account for 2 months or more.... It is like a card game show your hand or fold.
