Palestine calls for Arab League emergency meeting to condemn Israel's attack

2011-04-09 21:47:03 GMT+7 (ICT)

RAMALLAH (BNO NEWS) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League to discuss the recent Israel's military attacks on Gaza, Palestine News and Info Agency WAFA reported.

According to Saeb Erekat, member of the PLO Executive Committee, Abbas is looking for a unified Arab voice to put a stop to the aggression and condemn Israel's attacks, which have killed 17 Palestinians and injured many more.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa told Abbas that the meeting will be held on Sunday at noon.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli strikes killed three Hamas militant commanders and one civilian in the southern Gaza Strip.

Three Palestinian civilians on Friday were killed in airstrikes by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza Strip, in retaliation to a series of rockets fired at southern Israel. On Thursday, IDF strikes in Gaza resulted in the death of five Palestinians in response to a Hamas attack at an Israeli school bus.

According to the IDF, approximately fifteen terrorists were killed and an additional fifty injured as a result of IDF activity since the attack on the children's school bus on Thursday. It added that over the past 48 hours, terror organizations in the Gaza Strip fired over 70 Grad missiles, rockets and mortars at the Israeli home front.

In March, terrorist organizations fired 38 rockets and 87 mortar shells at southern Israeli communities. The total 128 attacks were the highest of the year compared to 61 in February and 83 in January.

IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip. In March, Israel deployed the Iron Dome missile defense system to protect Israel's southern communities from rocket threats coming from the Gaza Strip.

No figures on civilian casualties from the IDF. And if they did provide them they would refer to them as human shields. Not civilians. :annoyed:

This is pure pantomime. The 'emergency' meeting was no doubt envisaged well in advance, like prior to the recent flare up in hostilities. It is of course a precursor to more provocation by Hamas in preparation for the inevitable referral to the UNHRC.

Blame Hamas as usual.

Never too busy to condemn Israel. It makes for a nice distraction from suppressing and torturing fellow arabs.

Just few week ago the green light of the Arab League to a no-fly zone was most welcomed.

I believe that the Zionist are on the wrong side of history. I believe that the Palestinian people are anxious for freedom and the removal of somebody who has suppressed them for decades now. We are going to be in contact with the opposition, as well as in consultation with the international community, to try to achieve the goal of the Zionists being removed from power.

What is the point of posting a false quote with a real link that says something completely different?

If I may take a stab at answering your question;

- Lies are used when there are no reliable facts available.

- Throwing out false statements is not intended to support an exchange of ideas. Rather, it is intended to generate conflict and to provoke people into outbursts of frustration.

- Those that rely upon lies and expressions of hatred have no interest in civil discourse. Their intent is to be hurful and to disrupt.

I didn't post a false quote. Nor did i lie anywhere about it.

Its more an opinion than a statement of facts. i provide a link that said something amazing similar and wasn't that completely different.

All i did was an exchange of ideas a substitution, used another variable.

As we have now call for a no-fly zone its totally legit to compared it with Libya and why not look at some statements again, how they sound after exchange of the constituents.

That is IMHO a proper approach. It helps in gaining new insights.

Clinton Says Arab League Vote for No-Fly Zone Changed Minds

“That has changed the thinking of a lot of people,” Clinton said in an interview with CBS News, taped in Cairo. “As we consult in New York on the UN resolution” to pursue a no-fly zone “there is a much greater openness than there was a week ago.”

She said that “we and others have made it clear that there must be Arab leadership and Arab participation. How that will be defined will depend in large measure on what the Security Council decides to call for.”

It's a bit rich you bringing up the universal declaration of human rights seeing as many Arab Countries who you champion do not recognise the universal human rights legislation as it conflicts with Sharia law, which prescribes death for homosexuals and adulterers and discriminates against women and all infidels.

He doesn't seem to get it. When he admits changing the article, he seems to try and justify the alteration by stating..."wasn't that completely different."

When one quotes a written article, there should be NO difference. Quote it as is or don't quote it at all.

Equally amazing is that none of our so-called 'liberal' friends seem to think there is anything wrong with quoting an article after one has changed the entire meaning of the article.

Does that mean we can no longer trust any of them to quote an article as written?

Okay, whatever similar or completely different. Each example can stand alone and has its own quality and meaning and that is the point.

You can add your own version.

Or wait for some Fidel or Tehran statement or check who else of interest said something about the no-fly zone and re-sample that.
