KARACHI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Target killings in Karachi, Pakistan on Monday resulted in the death of three political activists and a woman, officials said.

Four gunmen riding motorcycles attacked five Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) activists, including vice-chairman Akhtar Hussain while they were returning from Central Jail Karachi after visiting party leader Afaq Ahmed, Pakistan's the Express Tribune reported.

According to officials, the attack occurred on Tariq Road when the gunmen armed with 9 millimeter and .30 caliber weapons opened fire against the vehicle and motorcycle the activists were riding, killing a passerby identified as Shamur Nehar, and injuring Hussain and the others.

Emergency teams transported the injured the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center where Hussain later succumbed to his wounds. Also among the fatal victims were MQM-H members Abdul Kareen and Sohaib. Salman Irshad and Anwar were the two others identified who sustained injuries.

A nearby police team on routine patrol said they tried to chase down the gunmen, who are believed to have followed the MQM-H activists from jail, but were unsuccessful.

In March 2010, Afaq Ahmed’s lawyer, Sohail Anjum, and three others including a taxi driver, were killed in the same area after visiting Afaq as well.
