Easy boys! I'm talking about the REAL ones. The feline variety.

We have 2 cats that we will be taking with us when we move from California to Pattaya. I'm working with our vet here to try to ensure their safety during that grueling trip.

Does anyone have experience with transporting cats on such a long trip? If so, I'd appreciate some input about your experience.

I'm also wondering about the supply situation over there. Is there decent commercial cat food and cat litter available? We use the relatively new "crystals" product ("Fresh Step Crystals") for our cats. If you know cats, you understand that they are fussy about EVERYTHING, including which litter they prefer. It would be easiest for us if that product is available there.

Any thoughts or information you can give me on the transportation and care of cats in our situation will be most welcomed.

Sorry not ever transported cats that far but a friend did take her cat from Uk to Canada - cat ignored her for about two weeks afterwards but it all went well.

She just used one of the massive carrying cases and had it out for a few weeks so the cat started using it as a bed. Needless to say since thr trip the cat runs away when the case comes out.

I know some people that have moved cats from states to UK and had the problem of feline diseases in the USA are not over here so they have struggled to find medicines etc but I am sure your vet will have that in hand!

As for the cat litter etc - sorry can't help you there. I can't really remember noticing a pet section in Tesco Lotus and don't remember seeing cat litter in the pet shops - but then I wasn't looking!

Maybe the cats won't be able to be so fussy!!

Get your cats used to the carrying cases for a few weeks before the flight. Kitty litter is available, don't know what kinds as our cat just uses the beach. There are different cat foods available but you will find that after a while your picky cat becomes a hungry cat and will eat whatever is available. Make sure your cats have all their shots before you come, and get your vet to give you some kind of certificate showing they have had all their shots. Also check with the airlines about what you will need.

CA to BKK is quite long indeed, too bad you couldn't break up the journey abit to give the cats a break but I think with all the certificates and stuff it would be even more hassle.

And just as an FYI, you posted in what is our very very early morning, most resident expats wouldn't be awake (or the ones who are wouldn't be the kind interested in those kind of kitties :o )
