Hello.

Me and my partner are in thailand. We are on a tourist visa that we got in penang. This is either 60 or 90 days. I think to make it ninety we have to extend it in bangkok? IS this correct? Because we got it on 1st of march and it says it runs out on 31st of may on the visa itself. - IS IT 60 DAYS AND THEN WE HAVE TO GET IT EXTENDED IN BANGKOK TO MAKE IT UP TO 90 DAYS? OR IS IT 90 DAYS AS IT STATES ON THE VISA ITSELF?!!! WHY WOULD THEY PUT 31ST OF MAY ON IT, IF WE HAVE TO EXTEND IT ON 31ST OF APRIL IN BANGKOK? I NEED HELP.

WE WANT TO GO TO LAOS, VIENTIANE TO EXTEND, ETC .

Will they extend and how much does IT COST for?

a. someone with a 30 day tourist visa

b. someone with the 60/90 day extended visa

c. someone who wants a non immigration b.

I WOULD APPRECIATE PRICE INFO FOR a, b and c . A, B and C are all different people.

Its all very confusing. We need to know the prices mainly. But also the question of the confusion with the visa we got from penang .

Thanks everyone, i am frustrating myself completely dealing with this and i feel completely depleted.

Thanks.

Simon.

The Visa gives you 60 days.

You can extend it by a further 30 days at any Immigration Office.

1,900 Baht fee. A passport size photo also needed.

A Tourist Visa costs 1,000 Baht per entry.

A non Imm B Visa costs 2,000 Baht for a Single Entry and 5,000 Baht for a Multi Entry.

Leave the country and return by a land border gives you 15 days.

Return by air gives 30 days.

Cost of Visa to enter Laos around 1,500 Baht.

OR IS IT 90 DAYS AS IT STATES ON THE VISA ITSELF?!!! WHY WOULD THEY PUT 31ST OF MAY ON IT, IF WE HAVE TO EXTEND IT ON 31ST OF APRIL IN BANGKOK?

The '90 days as it states on the visa itself' is the validity date, i.e., the date by which you must enter Thailand for the visa to be valid. Once you enter, you get the permission to stay, which is for 60 days on a Tourist visa, and MAY be extended at Immigration for up to 30 days for 1900 baht.

The 60 days starts on the date you enter, and the entry stamp shows the date by which you must leave Thailand.

Hope this helps.

As Sateev says.

You were issued with a tourist visa which has to be used (i.e. enter Thailand) within 90 days - 31st May 2011.

When you entered Thailand the visa was 'used up' and you were given 60 days permission to stay - until 30th April 2011.

You can apply for a 30 day extension of stay at a local immigration office (not a border post).

You can apply from now and the 30 days will be added to the 30th April permission to stay.

Better to do it sooner rather than later in case of any difficulties with paperwork.

a) 30 days is usually a Visa Exempt Entry and cannot normally be extended.

b - 30 days extension to the 60 days of the tourist entry - cost 1,900 baht.

c) Non-Imm B requires sponsorship from a qualifying company - lots of the company's legal paperwork if applying in this region.

NB There is no 31st April!

Reason for edit - Bloody smiley at b - B).

Thanks everyone. I want to go to Laos before my thai visa runs out. So i will go just before the 30th of april. I then want to come back to thailand after 10 days in laos. So I will have to pay 1000 to enter laos, and then pay 1900 to re enter thailand? is this correct?

Also my brother is coming to visit me in bangkok. he will have the standard thai 30 day tourist entry visa. we will travel to laos together. for him to go to laos, he will to pay 1000 baht to enter laos, and then also 1900 to re-enter thailand??????? (his flight back home is from bangkok). is that right?

Seems like a complete waste of money. Can anyone think of another way to do this? My other thought it that I will just extend the visa in bangkok and not bother going to laos until the 31st of may which is when my thai visa will run out.

Thanks

You seem to be confusing two completely different things :)

It does not cost 1,900 baht to enter Thailand.

It costs 1,900 baht to EXTEND your current permission to stay IN Thailand. This is done at any local Immigration office (no need to go to Bangkok), NOT at a border.

If you leave Thailand, your current permission to stay (if your visa is single entry) will be cancelled. If you then re-enter Thailand at a land crossing, you will be given another 15 day permission to stay. This does not cost anything.

And your brother appears to be entering with a visa exempt stamp so should have exit ticket within 30 days to show airline if asked. Such a stamp can not obtain a 30 day extension as with a real tourist visa. A land entry obtains a 15 day stay for most nationalities.

simongajewski - you really are getting confused!

"So I will have to pay 1000 to enter laos," probably "and then pay 1900 to re enter thailand?" No "is this correct?" No, it is not.

"Also my brother is coming to visit me in bangkok. he will have the standard thai 30 day tourist entry visa" No, he will have a 30 day (if arriving by air) Visa Exempt Entry, not a Tourist Visa (which is what you have and is for 60 days).

As Lopburi3 clearly warns, this cannot be extended for 30 days - only 7 days if showing a ticket out within those 7 days; and he should have a return ticket within the 30 days of travel or the airline might deny him boarding.

A Visa Exempt Entry at a land border is only for 15 days.

"he will to pay 1000 baht to enter laos," probably "and then also 1900 to re-enter thailand???????" No "...........................is that right?" No, it is wrong.

"until the 31st of may which is when my thai visa will run out" This is somewhat more confusing!

If you mean your original visa, issued in Penang it is no longer valid. You used it when you entered Thailand.

If you mean the extension of stay which you are going to get, it is only for 30 days so will expire 30th May, not 31st May.

NB I say probably above as I have not travelled to Laos for some years and do not know their current immigration fees.

To be brutally honest, I am probably even more confused now. I am very thankful that there are so many kind people trying to help me.

Thanks for responding, I will try and put it simply.

I am in Thailand

My thai 60 day visa runs out on 30th april.

I want to stay in thailand for a few more months.

My brother is visiting from the 25th of april until the 14th of may. Then he is flying back to london.

We would like visit laos for a week.

I am wondering whether I should go to laos and extend my thai visa (how much does that cost and how long will it be for).

If i forget laos, and extend my tourist visa by 30 days here in thailand, can I then still get it extended by going to laos and back when it runs out (end of may)?

WHAT IS CHEAPER AND BETTER FOR ME?

Im sorry Im such a pain. I am very grateful for your responses and I wouldn't be surprised if you give up entirely and start hurling abuse at me for being so constantly foolish.

Thanks

If you enter Laos and return by land you get 15 days.

If you enter Laos and return by air you get 30 days.

You need a Visa to enter Laos 1,500 Baht.

You can apply for a Tourist Visa at The Thai Consulate in Laos. 1,000 Baht.

This will give you 60 days and can be extended by 30 days at Immigration in Thailand. 1,900 Baht.

You can extend your current stay at Immigration by 30 days and then do any of the above.

ok thank you i understand.

And my brother, he can enter laos for 1500 baht and then return to thailand by land and he will have 15 days . Will he have to pay anything more for returning to thailand?

There is no charge to enter Thailand on a visa exempt stamp - the reason you have to pay to enter Laos is you must obtain a visa for entry (which is a visa on arrival issued at border).
