Hi all,

British, 34, been in Thailand for 3 years on a 1 year Thai Wife Non-O visa, latest one is due to expire 12 May 2011. I'll be going to the normal immigration offices for Bangkok, at Chaeng Wattana.

How soon before, and how late after, 12 May can one turn up at immigration to apply for a renewal? I think it's 7 days before and 7 after, but may be 14 days before and 7 after, god only knows.

I am aware that one should not leave it until the last day of the window.. my wife is going back to work on 8 May and we need to know what days in the week before that we could go in.

I've searched this forum and had a quick look at the Thai Immigration website (http://www.immigration.go.th/ .. what a joke) but can't find what I'm after.

Thanks

Nick

You can apply for a new 12 month extension within the final 30 days of you current extension.

Assuming this is what you are asking as your post is not very clear.

Or are you asking about 90 day reports?

As said if for one year extension of stay you must apply before your current stay expires and the normal time frame is within 30 days. Do early (a week or two) in case an extra paper or something is required.

you apply before your extension or visa expires.

The 7 day before or after is the rule regarding reporting to Immigration, which you must do every 90 days.

2 completely different things.

I use Nonthaburi as it is my local office, although I only live a stones throw from Chaeng Wattana, they are really good and quick, remember to have all the required documentation as it can be a nightmare having to go back and forth as traffic there is sometimes quite bad.

Thanks everybody. It was my 1 year Non-O visa that I'm extending. I didn't mention 90 day reporting, though I understand your hesitation to commit an answer in uncertain circumstances. I did have the time limits mixed up in my head.

30 days is certainly a lot of leeway, and good news.

The Chaeng Wattana office is certainly handy for paperwork .. since I will be proving my own money in the bank, last time I needed not only a passbook updated on that day, but also a letter from my bank on that day certifying that I've had the required sum in my account for the required period of time. An updated passbook and ATM receipt was not good enough. I got all this done by popping downstairs to the banks on the ground floor.

I think we'll go on Tuesday to make sure we have maximum time available. Monday and Thursday are probably holidays (picked a good week for it, didn't we? :))

Thanks again :)

Went today, no problems except we needed to provide photocopy of baby's entry in blue book as well as birth certificate which wasn't on the list of required documents for visa extension.

Also interesting that when certifying your extension using your own money in the bank, I'm sure it used to be that you had to have had the money in the bank for 6 months.. then last time I saw it was 3 months.. and today the note said that next time we'd need to show the money was in the bank for 2 months prior.

I'd actually moved 400k into a new savings account with SCB within the last 3 months, so I didn't have the full amount in a single account for the required period.. but the bank managed to print a letter saying that "account 1 has this much .. account 2 has this much.. so in total he has the full 400k" and all is good.
