Thai Street Map V11.1

Featured Replies

Being a total newcomer to GPS I am not sure if I have genuine issues with this map or not. I have just bought a Nuvi 3770 preloaded with v11.1 and find that although all language settings indicate English the actual place names on the map remain in Thai and cannot therefore be searched via the address option in English. Was this the case with v11? I notice from the ESRI GPSsociety website that there can also be issues regarding Junction View when upgrading to this new version and wonder if I also have a problem there as, driving around the outskirts of Pattaya, I do not get Junction View assistance. Maybe these are not available for the area in question but as a newbie I can't tell.

I should be very grateful if anyone using v11 could confirm whether or not they have the same issues.

1. It sounds like you have the Thai map displayed for some reason. Make sure the Text Language is set for English. Some Thai text will occasionally bleed over onto the English map, but the entire map should not be in Thai.

2. When you say place names do you mean street manes and POIs?

3. Go to "myMaps", press Tools > Settings > myMaps, what does it say?

4. There are no junction views for Pattaya, only Bangkok and supposedly now Chiang Mai city.

5. I have TSM V11.1 working on my 3770.

1. Checking my settings shows 'Voice', 'Text' and 'Keyboard' languages all set to English. When I zoom right out the Country place names are in English but as soon as I zoom close enough to just show just Thailand all the Changwat names appear in Thai script. As I zoom in closer they change to English but if I type in a city name that I have found on the map, in English, as an address to search for, it always comes up as 'No matches found'. Any ideas?

2. Thanks. I had a feeling that might be the case.

Don't worry, ignore me I'm an idiot!! Found I was searching for a Changwat name within Chon Buri rather than selecting the correct Changwat then searching the city name within that Changwat.

I can live with the Thai names changing to English as I move in closer, maybe it'll teach how to read a bit of Thai!!

Now I'm really confused.....will you stop editing while I'm editing!!

My maps shows Thailand DEM, Thailand StreetMap V11.1 NT 3D, and Thailand StreetMap V11.1 NT (Dual) All. I have all 3 ticked is that right?

Think I'm sorted now anyway, thanks for your help.

Ah, mystery solved. Welcome to the wonderful world of the Thailand Street Map search function. When searching you need the exact spelling as it appears in the database, for cities use the Cities function, address means street name or Soi, and it helps to have the car icon close to where you are looking. You just have to get used to how it works.

Seems to me that with the search function you can find anywhere you like as long as you know where it is in the first place! Wonderful isn't it, love the 3770 though, maybe I should just find a different country to use it in!! :D

Thanks for your help, I think I'll be able to muddle my way through now.
