Hi guys, quick question:

At the end of the first 30 days of a non-imm B visa, does the holder go to Immigration for an extension, or is it required to leave the country to apply for another one? Also, is a re-entry permit required?

Thanks lots in advance!

Non immigrant visas allow 90 day stay. If multi entry you exit and return for a new 90 day stay. No re-entry permit is required with a multi entry visa for a return during its validity.

Now if you are asking about a one year extension of stay for work and have the required company paperwork and meet the salary requirements you visit immigration during the last 30 days of your 90 day permitted to stay, fill out a TM.7 and pay 1,900 baht for a one year extension of stay. When on an extension of stay you will require a re-entry permit prior to any foreign travel so that you can return with the same permitted to stay time.

Thanks for the reply!

It's a single entry 90 day non-imm B visa. Can the extension still be done at Bangkok Immigration, or is a visa run required?

I noticed in the list of documents required:

Extension of Thai Business Visa

The Thai "B" or Business Visa can be extended to a one year visa in country as follows.

The extension of the visa is normally based on employment and as such there are certain regulations governing the company who is employing you.

These are the regulations for the extension of the "B" Business Visa:

1. The business must be registered in Thailand.

2. The company must be capitalized to at least Baht 2 Million while operating fund must be at least Baht 1 Million.

3. The company must have a ration of at least 4 : 1 - Four Thais for every foreigner.

4. You must earn at least in accordance with the level specified for each nationality by the Labour Department.

Duration of the Extension

- One year at a time.

Documents required for the extension:

1. Application form (T.M. 7 )

2. Passport or document used in lien of passport and its copies .

3. The applicants 4 x 6 cm. photograph .

4. Extension fee Baht 1,900.-

5. The company letters certifying as follows ;

- Nature of business

- Reason or necessity in employing the applicant his / her position, salary and education background.

- Number of Thai and foreign employees.

6. Copies of work permit or receipt of work permit application.

7. Company's annual balance sheets.

8. The juristic persons Annual Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.50) of the latest year and its receipt of payment.

9. Thai employees Monthly Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.1 ) of the latest month and its receipt of payment.

10. The applicants Annual Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.91) of the latest year and its receipt of payment.

11. The official letter that certify the registration of such juristic person.

12. Business Registration or Business License.

13. Value Added Tax Registration and list of share holders.

14. A map that indicate location of the Company.

15. For those who operate export business, the documentary evidence clarifying its export activities is needed.

16. For those who operate tourism business, the documentary evidence clarifying its total number of tourist that brought in by the company is needed.

N.B. In case of necessity , documents No.7 , 8 , 9 , and 10 can be substituted by the company letters stating its reason.

Does this imply that the person would have had to be employed for a year already before extensions are required?

It means the company must have been in business for a year or more (to have the required tax paperwork). You want to extend during the last 30 days of your current stay if you can. If not you will have to take paperwork to a Consulate outside Thailand to obtain a new non immigrant B visa and return for a new 90 day stay (some people have to do this for extended periods so extension is what you want).

I'm not sure, but I thought the compay must show tax-records for 2 years, not 1 year, in order to be able to get an extension of stay from immigration.

Do you have a work permit, longer still valid than 8 months?

If yes, you can go to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and apply for a multiple-non-B visa, valid for 1 year. Every 90 days you leave the country and re-enter again for a new 90 days. be leaving and re-entering just before the visa expires you get a new 90 days and so almost 15 months out of it.

Inquire which documents you actulaly have to show to get the multiple non-B.

WP still has bout 2 months left on it, visa is expiring soon. Got the visa from KL, they issued a single entry 90 day.

Guess I've no choice but to do the 90 day jaunt until the company is legible for visa extensions.

Is it possible to get the next visa done at the consulate in Savannakhet?

Try getting your Work Permit extended at the Labour Department for another year before going to KL; have all the correct papers, then you can get a one year Multiple Entry Non-immigrant B Visa - with this you just need to do a 90 day splash and dash to the nearest border for another 90 day stamp.

With a multiple entry one year visa you are good for 15 months, after this your company's tax records, etc, may be sufficient for an extension of permission to stay at your local immigration dept.

Correct, KL will give you a multiple non-B if you have at least 8 months left on your WP.

Work permit validity is not linked to Non-B visas any more.
