FDA to conduct inspection on health products across Bangkok this month

BANGKOK, 5 May 2011 (NNT)-The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken the opportunity this month to conduct an inspection on health products across Bangkok and its surrounding provinces with those found in violation of hygiene standards to be prosecuted.

FDA Secretary-General Dr Pipat Yingseri said items on the list of inspection include food, drugs, cosmetics, medical equipments and beauty products. He said that, for the FDA, producing fake food is a serious matter. Manufacturers will receive jail terms of 6 months to 10 years and heavy fines of 5,000-100,000 THB.

Meanwhile, those who have given false information on their cosmetics or exaggerated their quality could be jailed by 6 months or fined for 50,000 THB or face both counts. Retailers of sub standard medical equipments could face the jail term of no more than 3 years or a fine of no more than 150,000 THB or both. Meanwhile, a jail term of no more than 2 years and a fine of no higher than 100,000 THB will be applied to whoever sells defective medical equipments.
