A condo owner does get a blue book but it lists the property, not the owner. If you own three condos, you have three blue books.

It is the yellow book in which a foreigner gets his name and address registered.

Is there anyone that has a list of the advantages of getting a yellow book ? Reading through this topic ,there seems to be a lot of conflicting information.

I can't see any disadvantages to getting the yellow tambien ban.

Among the advantages might well be:

-- no more need for the "embassy verification of address" that is sometimes required;

-- I don't have a Work Permit, am here on a retirement extension, and last year when I needed to open up a new bank account a bit upcountry, the bank asked for the WP, nada, so pulled out the YTB, worked fine, smiles all around;

-- Thai price for entry to national parks, etc? Haven't had to use this, as yet, as oftimes the Thai driving permit suffices.

-- More??

LTD in Surin and Prasat will not except yellow book. They only except certificate of residence from immigration.

Sukhothai Historical Park will not except yellow book or Thai DL. If your a farang you pay tourist price.

I don't consider myself a tight ass, but refused to pay the farang price at Si Satchatanali,so they dipped out allround including the other 10 people with us.To me it's the principal of not agreeing to the two price system even that I have known about it for 21 years. Edited by Ron19

Agree!

Several years ago I had a van load of farangs with me headed down to Ban Kruat on the coast. Big national park in the area, stopped at the gate, farang price!! I protested, they said they'd let me in at the Thai price, but not the rest. OK, we drove on to BK, so the park didn't get the other eight, even at the Thai price.

They are just being dix.

Just to confirm: LTD in BKK does accept KR.13.

The YTB is OK at Pathum Thani LTD out on Klong 4, at least for driving permit renewal. Indeed, last time I renewed my 5-year license, the gal asked if it was ok with me if she used the YTB number for the license rather than my passport number. Fine with me, sez I.

What I have seen is the YTB is widely excepted in the metro regions of Thailand, BK, CM Pattaya, Phuket etc. Its when you are in the rural areas that there is resistance.

I got mine at our local Amphur office in Lamphun province. Brought my passport (with 1 year extension based on marriage), my wife, and the local head of our village. The employees at the Amphur office were friendly and helpful. They filled out the forms, the head of the village signed a paper verifying I lived at our house in our village, and about 45 minutes later -- Bob's your uncle -- I had my Yellow House Book. That easy!

Very similar to mine. I got married at the local Amphur office today and the they processed my yellow book after the marriage certificate was issued. I had the following documents:

Copy of passport of photo page and visa

Copy of wifes blue book

Copy her ID

Copy of brand new marriage certificate

Two witnesses and copies of their IDs

Three photos

The local officer filled out all the documents including the letters that the witneses had to sign.

The whole process including marriage certificate and yellow book took 3 hours.

The Amphur office was Phayao.

Very friendly staff.

I have been pursuing a yellow Tabien Baan for a month with four visits to the local Amphure.The 1st visit I had two copies of everything that you have listed and was told by a very nice lady that everything is in order and to go home and wait for a phone call to nominate a interview appiontment.Two weeks later,no phone call so went in again and were told she isn't in.A week later went back and spoke to her and she made an appiontment for 10am today and to bring along two more copies of the passport pages,Phuyai Baan and another witness who has known me for a long time.The lady didn't arrive until 11.15 and then told my wife that everything had to translated into Thai,then to come back.That was when without raising my voice said to her that I am not happy with the way that this is turning out to be a never ending process and to give me the papers back and I will not pursue it any further.

She gave me the papers which I picked up, thanked her and then walked out.I don't see any reason for trying any further to get messed around for something that has limited value.Not impressed at all.

Thanks for that.What really pissed me off was the lack of uniformity in this subject in the different Amphure's.If I had been given the correct information and follow up,maybe would have felt better about things but one month and four visits is over the top. Edited by Ron19

sorry Ron but its not the paperwork heard all the stories about getting this but its who you know

I feel that you are right but it shouldn't happen like that.The sad part for me is that it has closed the door to my ultimate aim which was Thai citizenship.

I don't think you should give up like that. I come from Norway where everyone is supposed to be equal, but even there it is more about who you know than about what you know, so if you want to pursue your aim of Thai citizenship you have to persevere and use your contacts for whatever they are worth. Myself I'm in the process of getting a YTB and will probably get it next week thanks to the help of some good Thai friends.

Thanks for your thoughts but my local Ampure is Phichai and the woman was very pleasant but appeared to not have the knowledge to go about the process and messed me around to no end over a period of a month.After the 4th visit and then being told that everything had to be translated into thai,it was too much for me.Why couldn't I have been given the correct information on the 1st visit ? I may change my mind in the future only time will tell.

Is there anyone out there that has experienced applying for a yellow book at Phichai ampure office and could share thier experience with me.?
