Windows 7 Ulimate

While compressing Drive C, my laptop lost power.

When attempting to reboot, get this message:

LROXG is compressed Ctl + Alt + Del to Restart

Ctl + Alt + Del has no affect

Have tried to repair with Win 7 but no success,

Suggestions, please.

Why were you compressing your C drive??

Use a Live CD or a hard drive caddy to retrieve your info and then run a Factory Restore.

C Drive was full so compressing to get a bit of space before increasing partition size.

All data is backed up.

Could reinstall OS but that would mean reinstalling many programs,

Bad idea. Look here and here

You can try fixing your MBR.

32 or 64 bit?

I was going to supply you with a Windows 7 Rescue disc, but if you write that you have already attempted FixMBR there is maybe no point.

Perhaps put the HDD in an external caddy and see if you can use Windows to decompress it that way.

If you want to proceed with my rescue disc(or your Windows 7 disc), you can proceed thus:

Download and save this Windows 7 Recovery Disc Image to a working computer.

Next, download and install ImgBurn(No need to install the Google Toolbar. Remove the relevant tick). Burn the Image to Disc. Use this guide(skip step 2b)

You can then use these instructions to assist you with an automatic startup repair. Further than that we will have access to the Registry via Command Prompt.

Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and perform a "Startup Repair".

If the above doesn't solve the problem then boot into WinRE again, but when selecting the Windows 7 installation, then press "Load Drivers" (Instead of "Next") and use the mini Windows Explorer to right-click the boot-drive and deselect "Compress this Drive" and choose Apply to sub-folders and files.

If that also fails then boot into WinRE again, and go to the "Command Prompt" and execute these commands:

“compact /U C:\bootmgr”

“compact /U C:\ntldr”
