Yingluck Shinawatra, the younger sister of former prime minister Thaksin, will fill the No 1 spot on Pheu Thai's party list, a party source confirmed yesterday.

The party's executive board also decided to name Pol General Pracha Promnok for second place on the party list.

Other A-list candidates are party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit and red-shirt leaders such as Jatuporn Promphan, Natawut Saikua and Korkaew Pikulthong.

However, the list will be sent to Thaksin for approval again.

I find it remarkable that Thailand feel put out when folks in the west refer to them as being essentially stupid. How many different ways are there to f*** a cat before you relise that you are the cat. 300 Bt, then a buffalo, now an Ipad!! Morons.

I actually feel a bit sorry for the lady. She's got vulnerabilities. If her sordid biz dealings and tax dodging episodes get exposed, she could get angy, vindictive, depressed, frazzled, and start slapping defamation suits right and left. I bet she won't look so cute after her prior biz dealings are exposed.

People also say Thaksin was a great business person, but consider: he never had biz success until his late 30's, he hid his assets with his chauffeur, he avoided taxes illegally, he used Air Force transport planes to ship near-rotten fruit (which couldn't be sold in Thailand) to Thai embassies worldwide in the hope it would be sold overseas. He invested in Dubai real estate right before their market slumped, ....the list goes on.

He's good at making and breaking promises to heads of small governments (in exchange for passports), but time will tell how good he is at trying to control a bereft political party from the other side of the world. He's also good a lying to the Thai government (saying he'd return right after the Beijing Olympics), and he's good at keeping his quotes and face on the front pages of Thai newspapers.

nag all you want, majority counts.

So why do the red shirts have a problem with the Abhisit government. Abhisit was elected by a majority.

It is his former wife who was the smart one in the family...and still is the smart one....she was the one who put the whole business empire together...Thaksin fronted it but she made most of the bullets that he fired....one extremely smart lady...worth reading up about her

So, the Puppetmaster has his puppet.

incredible that the one pulling the strings can not trust anyone in his own party to be leader

It is all about 3 billion dollars and change and no gray bar hotel. That is all this about. He cannot trust anyone but family at this point. I fear the worst for Thailand if she would win the top spot. Just from what I read in TV and other media news is that Thaskin may have crossed the line in CON-sulting his party. Let's hope so.

Shame you didn't read this thread linked below instead, as otherwise you'd discover it was Thaksin's daughter and not his sister who who was the richest stockholder. Not that it really matters if it was his daughter, his sister, or the family gardener as it's all Thaksin's money anyway.

Thaksin's Daughter Thailand's Richest Stockholder

In regards to Yingluck being "a great business woman", , it'll be interesting to see the trail of her assets that for the first time in her life she'll be required to diligently outline and declare.

With all the dubious shifting of stocks and monies over the years she's been involved with a plethora of other clan members, it won't be surprising if she ends up getting busted for filing a false asset declaration.

oh, and

Here's a very interesting link about her.............:jap:

Thanks for the link outlining some of her dubious transactions while President of AIS.

I always thought it funny that this "great business woman" invented her position with the family business and that it was promptly dumped when they sold out.

AIS to abolish president's post

Advanced Info Service will eliminate the president's position that is being vacated by Yingluck Shinawatra, the sister of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, according to a company source.

The source said the decision was made by the Singaporean state investment company Temasek Holdings after taking over AIS's parent company, Shin Corporation.

Ms Yingluck had been the president of AIS since the post was created five years ago on her initiative, the source said.

Well, if Thaksin keeps on calling in and campaigning for PT, the EC and the courts will simply dissolve the party & ban the party execs from politics. So, after a brief career as either PM or leader of the opposition, she will join her sister, brother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and god knows who else in the "Banned Politicians Club"!

I still don't know if Thaksin is trying to create more martyrs for the "Save Thaksin" cause or if he just doesn't believe that anyone else can do the job well enough.<_<

If PTP uses videos of all k. Thaksin's pre-House-dissolution appearances, I'm not sure that's against any election law. Might have been a very smart move :ermm:

Can't see much in the way of achievements in her record. She graduated from one of those crappy state colleges in the US that needs fees from overseas students to subsidize the in-state students' low fees. At 34 and without any significant prior experience she was given an honorary position as president in her brother's company to look after family interests there. The business was managed by industry professionals and she had no significant day to day responsibilities. Following the sale of the business, the position of president was eliminated and she moved on to the family property firm, which is also run by professionals, to perform the same role of family board representative without any other onerous responsibilities. While she was president of the family telecoms business she indulged in insider selling of the company's shares just before the SEC surprised the market with a questionable decision to let the foreign purchasor of the group off the hook from making general offers for all the group's subsidiaries, causing the price of the shares she had just sold to plummet. The toothless SEC further accommodated the family by failing to pursue her for insider trading in what was apparently an open and shut case.

I don't think she build up any business by herself.....

Many (if not most) successful businesses in Thailand are so successful because they have arranged for themselves monopolies here, either monopolies in reality or virtual monopolies using their contacts and connections to Govt to discourage any competition. Thaksin's empire was build like this. This is why many of these successful businesses we see in Thailand cannot profitably operate outside of Thailand in normal competitive (i.e. level competitive playing field) business environments.

Thaksin's primary skill that has led to his business success has been in regard to his ability to either do away with or discourage competition using his contacts or the tools he (and others) created in Govt policy.

This has been going on for decades before Thaksin but Thaksin ranks at the top of the list of being the most greedy and the most blatant abuser of his connections and Government when he was PM.

IN any case, neither Thaksin nor any of his immediately family, have shown much in the way of being "great" at business.
