Thaksin's Sister Yingluck To Be No 1 On Pheu Thai's Party List

And as if Yingluck's listing wasn't dubious enough, let's throw in the Red Shirt Suspected Terrorists Out On Bail into the Pheu Thai Party mix. :annoyed:

Other A-list candidates are party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit and red-shirt leaders such as Jatuporn Promphan, Natawut Saikua and Korkaew Pikulthong.

Well, it's nice to see that the PTP have just sunk their own boat with this one. As much as I love seeing women put in positions of power, Thailand for all practical purposes still sees them as subservient beings, to do the whims of men. There's no way in hell that the majority of Thai's would vote in someone for whom they have such disregard and little respect. Tis' a done deal & nice going! Puah Thai loses based on this alone.

Ms. Yingluck would be party list candidate, no one voting for her directly. The only significance of her being 'selected' no.1 on that list is the fact that dear older brother Thaksin did the selection. No more, no less. His right to do so, it's his party. He set it up (in the former guise of TRT), he bought minor parties, he financed the lot. The fact that PTP also happens to be a Thai political party participating in a democratic system with elections and the lot has nothing to do with it.

Happy Days are here again; whatever happens during the elections we all know, that there will be a massive inflow of untraceable cash which in turn will energize the economy.

Whatever is the outcome is irrelevant. If the Democrats win, then wait for early next year as those 111 members of parliament will be having finished their five-year election ban .... so, there will be elections next year again. This of course only, if none of the usually non-variables remain non-variable!

Putting Yingluck at the helm as well as the possibility of Thailand's first female prime minister - could make certan men in forms more nervous than anything else before, specially knowing the puppetmaster behind all this whistling.gif

This part of your post I do not understand.

If the Democrats win (as in having a majority) or if they are the only ones who can form a majority government, that government may govern for FOUR years.

Those around 111 currently banned politicians are just that 'politicians', banned so certainly not "MP's". Also when they can participate again legally around halfway 2012 they still have to be put up as possible constituency or party list candidates AND wait for by-elections or a new general election.

All this assuming the world will not end December 2012

You're kidding, right? You really don't think this candidate has any bearing on anything, simply that she is a proxy for her "dear older brother"? In that case, based on your explanation Takki's pet monkey could be in the #1 spot and it would be pretty much the same thing?

I think the quote will be more like... "Welcome home & welcome to jail brother."

Just wait for this quote... "Welcome home brother."

It's absurd but it seems like that is what it has come down to. She has no political or public speaking experience. How much more ridiculous would it be if Thaksin's children were put up as candidates for PM?

On May 10th the dear lady notified the Pheu Thai Party about her intention to become a party-list candidate. Today it seems she's to be no.1 on the list. Reason: big brother OK'ed the request. It's his party anyway 'Thaksin thinks, PTP does'. Traditionally no.1 just happens to be the most likely PM candidate if a party has a say in that selection.

As for the pet monkey, he might be in the monkey house at the moment ;)

PS please use proper names, like k. Thaksin, NOT Takki !)

Is their motto really; 'Thaksin thinks, PTP does'. ....?

That's got to be more a parody than reality. That's got to sink their boat, even if PT's myriad drawbacks don't. I never had a sister, but I've shacked up with some women, and I can't imagine any woman, once she gets hold of the reigns of power, doing what a man tells her to do - especially over the phone.

I just don't see why people think connections with Thaksin will harm PT in any way. He's still by far their strongest asset. That's why MPs from the NE have stayed in the party instead of defecting to PJT, Thaksin's popularity, plus people's fond memories of the TRT days which still amounts to votes for PT candidates.

Actually it was "Thaksin thinks, Puea Thai acts", his brother-in-law k. Somchai said on the 12 of April 2011. It was repeated during the April 23rd happening:

"Party supporters chanted "Thaksin thinks, Puea Thai acts" at Thammasart Rangsit University's Rangsit Campus outside Bangkok - where redshirts and party officials came together to launch their election campaign."

Well, if Thaksin keeps on calling in and campaigning for PT, the EC and the courts will simply dissolve the party & ban the party execs from politics. So, after a brief career as either PM or leader of the opposition, she will join her sister, brother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and god knows who else in the "Banned Politicians Club"!

I still don't know if Thaksin is trying to create more martyrs for the "Save Thaksin" cause or if he just doesn't believe that anyone else can do the job well enough.<_<

If PTP uses videos of all k. Thaksin's pre-House-dissolution appearances, I'm not sure that's against any election law. Might have been a very smart move :ermm:

It would appear their whole front strategy is based on Thaksins words and actions, that as a basis for party action, if advertised, on should be enough to close the party down. Banning the execs might be harder, didn't they mostly all quit last week or so? He either wants a win or a war to reach his ends, he can't get what he wants any other way. But he may get the war if he wins, regardless of earlier pronouncements, it really depends on how inflated his ego goes and how fast and far he runs with it.

She is certainly better looking than her brother. She has got my vote!!!

Here's a very interesting link about her.............:jap:

"Talk with Open" ? Where do the Thai's get their English translations, sesame street?

Interesting reading about the 'insider trading' allegations against Ms Yingluck. It appears because Thailand's rules regarding what constitutes 'insider trading' are weaker than what many western countries define as such, then she probably won't have legal consequences from those transactions. The 'Luck' in her name reflects the luck she has in dodging consequences of her shady business dealings. How will her luck hold out when other questionable dealings are questioned? Time will tell. She's in the limelight now. She can hide behind her brothers thoughts ('Thakin thinks, Puea Thai acts') for awhile, but even if she's proxy leader, she's got to stand for something someday - other than her apparent guiding principle: 'get rich as fast as possible while dodging government regulations as much as possible.' ....or maybe not.

Snoh poised to join Pheu Thai, Yingluck's clout for premiership

Pracharaj Party Leader Snoh Thienthong is poised to quit his party to become a party-list candidate under the Pheu Thai banner.

A press conference is scheduled for Friday's morning to announce Snoh's decision.

Pheu Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit and designated Party-list candidate Yingluck Shinawatra are expected to pay a visit to Snoh at his residence to personally invite him.

Yingluck, sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has intended her meeting with Snoh as a first public appearance to demonstrate her clout to vie for the position of prime minister.

Sorry dear, you must not be current on your Shin-O-watra speak. The dear boy officially changed his name to "Takki Shinegra" some time back. His Nicaraguan, Uganda and Montenegro passports are all issued bearing his proud new moniker! ...the boy's just not right.

PTP = Dr. Thaksin = PTP. Either one is NOTHING without the other. The red shirts feel betrayed at their low ranking on the PTP party lists but have nowhere to go. Dr. Thaksin has thrown so many supporters 'under the bus', he can't trust anyone any longer. If Khun Yingluck becomes Prime Minister, she will need a bluetooth earphone surgically installed and an extended battery as she will be connected, wirelessly, to Dr.Thaksin every waking moment in case someone asks her a question. I think all this is going to be difficult for Thailand but interesting for the non-Thais to watch play out.

Don't vote for her party. Thats how it works.

Not really important, but the dear boy also denied having changed his name. The issue seems to have died out after two/three days in 2009.

Still names as 'Mr. Fix-it' and 'The Brain' are probably permissable
