Leaving Apartment For 3 Months, What To Remember Doing?

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm going back to Europe to work for three months, and keeping the apartment I'm renting in Bangkok. It's a studio apartment in a big complex. Is there something I should consider doing that isn't obvious (like emptying and unplugging the fridge).

dont leave anything of value within the apartment, also let security know you are leaving and for them to keep an eye on the apartment.

Make sure you put out the cat.....and turn off the aircon.

Arrange for utility bills to be paid so they are not cut off.

AND give your lady enough cash to survive.

Locking the door is a good start...

Not sure whether I agree with "boater" about letting security know....:whistling:

remember where it is, so you can find it when you come back :)

Don't just empty and switch off the fridge, leave the doors open as well so that air can circulate - or it will grow moldy.

Turn the water and elecctric off at the mains.

Leave the 'fridge doors open.

I normally remember everything up to midnight or the eighth pint, whichever is later

I can't believe that he's going away when the cat is on fire.

Sounds a bit east-end loan shark to me.

Burgle it and claim on the insurance.

If u have your stuff there might be a good idea to have a friend go 'visit' every now and then?

Cut off mains. Including water.

Yes unplug fridge then let dry completely before closing the door prior to leaving. Suggest u unplug 2 days , 3 if possible.

Don't forget to take trash out from EVERY bin before going

Draw the curtains / blinds shut.

(but if friend can visit ask them to help air the place when they come. Maybe if location works for them they can crash once a week or every 2 weeks?)

Do your laundry before going :P

Check pantry for any food that might expire. Stale bread amongst other things is not what u wanna come back to

Have your mail re-directed or picked up.

Check with internet provider if u can suspend subscription for 3 months. (it's possible with cable tv)

Lock all windows and doors

Pack your things. Say au revoir and before u know it, it will be 3 months :)

Enjoy your trip

Speaking of posts .... it seems I don't have enough free time ... I mean this is my three hundred and something post and there are people in the thousands!!!!! :(

Perhaps I should post when I don't really have anything to say :whistling:

Cheers, some good tips here, especially about leaving the fridge open. You summed everything up nicely MiG16, I'll check your list before leaving :)

we leave our condo for 6-9 months per year

One thing I do is put this cup over the entry knob

You can get them at places like HomePro

Prevents any maintenance guys from using a master key or spares.

PS: this is not the one I have but the only pic I could find.

Buy the one with the beefy lock.

Use a can of insect spray around the unit before you go out - reduces the chances of coming back to an infestation of something nasty.

Having been party to a fridge that was left unopened for 6 months (it was loaded mind when the power was disconnected), I agree with the above sentiments, prop the door open and if you get someone to check the place tell them not to close it :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Does that work on the in laws as well....

Make sure you put out the <deleted>....

also , take a record of your electric meter reading

put all your items , micro wave , toaster etc , into your wardrobe, and chain and padlock wardrobe.

take photos of your appartment ,, and upon your return , check nothing has been moved .

i leave my appartment 3 times a year to go farang land ,

and to date, no problems .

:jap:

Yes. Crack security. The least in which I would in entrust.

A good friend would suffice.

Put some clingfilm over the toilets and then put the seats down, and out the plugs in the sinks, bath etc.

If the water evaporates out of the traps while you''re away you'll com back to a stink.

Top advice. Three months should be enough to forget about the cling film...

Let's stick around...

You just ruined an epic practical joke, and I salute you for it :D If I put cling film, I will at least mark it.

I will do the place up with anti insect chalk, and anti roach bait. Spray would surely lose effect after one day, yeah?

Don't just empty and switch off the fridge, leave the doors open as well so that air can circulate - or it will grow moldy.

last time i left door open,it would not shut propaly when i got back, hinges stretched or somet.

That's why I said: leave it open to dry 2 or 3 days before you leave. Close the door once it's dried.

Else u may end up with all sorts of 'friends' inside your fridge :P

sub let the apartment B)

dont forget to let me mind it for you.....im a good guy i swear
