Report to the police, next go to your embassy (with police report) and apply for a new passport (or emergency passport). (Might be different for British, as normally passport applications have to be send abroad).

Once you have the new passport, go to immiragtion and take the police report with you. They will give you your permisison to stay in the new passport. Any valid visa itself in the old passport will not be replaced and is lost.

If you are on an exteson of stay, there is no problem. But a valid multiple visa would be lost and can no longer be used for a new entry.

It's that simple:

Report it to the police.

Go to your embassy.

Then do what they tell you.

And no offense but this took me .25 seconds to get from Google:

Lost British Passport

The British embassy in Bangkok will not help with a lost/stolen passport.

They won't give you the LS01 Notification form, tell you what to do with it, and where to send it etc? Wow.

My apologies. Thought they'd be more useful than they apparently are (even the US embassy does better than that!)

The UK Embassy web site clearly says they will (with below from UK in Hong Kong web site link) and if you need to travel they can issue emergency travel documents here in Bangkok.

It is vital you report a lost or stolen passport as soon as possible to the local police in the country you are in and to the nearest British Embassy, Consulate or High Commission even if you don't want to replace your passport immediately. This will reduce the risk of someone using your passport or your identity.

When you report the loss or theft to the Embassy, they will give you a Lost or Stolen (LS01) Notification form to fill in and sign. We will record the loss or theft of your passport and forward the information to Identity and Passport Service. The IPS will then cancel your passport to reduce the risk of someone else using your identity. You need to use form LS01 to report any loss or theft of your passport whether applying for a replacement passport or not.

Yeah, really helpful.

Give you a form that you can get online, and give you information that you can get online.

What do you think is best? Suggest the OP makes a wasted trip to the embassy or just tell him he can find what he needs from the HK embassy website? We are not talking about the US embassy here and your sarcasm is not constructive.

Here smithy, their website appears to be working now. Everything you need to know is here: http://ukinhongkong.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/how-to-apply/thailand/

I think it would be helpful for someone who didn't know what to do.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was genuinely surprised and actually would ave expected more care from the UK embassy than from the US (as I have a very low opinion of them in general).

Yes, I think telling him he can find what he needs from the HK embassy website is better than telling him to make a trip to the embassy (though it wouldn't be wasted if he got the form and the info on what to do with it) -- forgive me for not realizing that was an option (THAT was sarcasm).

But I sincerely apologize for my post given it has caused offense; I wished I hadn't made it since I don't mind offending people about something worthwhile but not this...but perhaps you shouldn't have taken it so seriously.

Im on a multiple entry visa

Do you know how long they will give in the new passport for extension of stay?

Posted

Your multiple entry visa is gone. They will give you your current permission to stay back in the new passport. So if you would be allowed to stay till June 5th, you will get a stamp in your passport allowing you to stay till June 5th. Than you have to leave the country and get a new visa (or apply for an extension of stay).

Posted

Am sure the Embassy still interview you about the loss and grill you for answers. As there are too many occurrences where people have "lost" or "washed" their passport.

The Immigration will check your story and check the validity of your previous visa before issuing you with a new stamp.

Smithy

That happened to me a few months back and I can understand what you're going through!! This is what I did:

1. Get a police report immediately

2. Go to UK embassy and apply for new passport and inform them of stolen one

3. Get new passport from Hong Kong (embassy will assist you in this case)

4. New passport arrives (I got mine in 4 days)

5. Go to Chaengwattana and get new stamps

At Chaengwattana, you will need the following:

· the new passport (and photocopy)

· the photocopy of the stolen passport

· the police report (and photocopy)

· the letter from the embassy (and photocopy)

· completed 'Lost Passport' form

· completed 'Transfer' form

Hope this helps.

JD

Note: This is for an Non O extension of stay and not a multiple entry visa.

The British embassy in Bangkok will not help with a lost/stolen passport.

This is utter nonsense!! The lady I dealt with was so helpful to me, I sent a special thank you to her in the Compliments & Complaints section of the UK Embassy website. I can give you her name if you PM me.

I just assume that the practice was a logical and straightforward one as it always has been, at the British Embassy and most if not all others. And apparently it is.

Even the site that Moonraker so vehemently said should be used in lieu of the embassy says in it's first line on the relevant page:

British Passport is lost or stolen abroad

It is vital you report a lost or stolen passport as soon as possible to the local police in the country you are in and to the nearest British Embassy, Consulate or High Commission...

Though I'd be somewhat surprised, I don't think it impossible that the HK website is giving info that isn't applicable to Bangkok.; but according to other posters here and my neighbor (when he was talking about a friend of ours renewing his passport through the mail this morning I mentioned how surprised I was that the Embassy wouldn't handle lost passport issues) it isn't.

I should think it'd be good for British posters to have a definite answer to this and hope I haven't muddied the waters at all (I should have stayed out of it at the start).

Yes they will, you should report the loss to the police and then to the UK Embassy, report the loss there and they will arrange to have it cancelled, you can order a new passport at the same time.

Your link is for the embassy in Hong Kong. Read it at the top of the page, it says Hong Kong.

I don't consider being told that I have to apply for a new passport in another country by my own embassy to be particularly helpful.

The link is provided from the Embassy Bangkok web site as it is the information for new passport application (which is done in Hong Kong). You report loss to your local (Bangkok) Embassy as it says. If you then need a travel document Bangkok can provide but if you need a passport the office in Hong Kong will have to issue.

Thanks Lopburi

I must admit I wasn't aware of having to report the loss/stolen passport to the embassy, although I do still wonder if the LSO1 one form cannot be just printed out on-line and sent with the application to HK. They give the link to the document online, which would suggest you can do just that!

But still.

The British embassy WILL NOT issue new passports. It says so here on their website in plain language. http://ukinthailand....onals/passports

Apparently you've gone from being repeatedly and adamantly certain about what the embassy wouldn't do and what had to be done to, being unaware of what the facts actually were and wondering what might be possible.

I don't think anyone claimed they would issue the passport. All that was said was the Embassy had to be contacted.

Posted

But they can and do provide travel documents that those on a tourist visit would require for onward travel so for many they would be the contact after police. And they would then be able to obtain a replacement passport in the normal manner after return home.

Yes, I am fully aware it says Hong Kong, but thank you for pointing it out, just in case I had missed it.

You will be aware that on the UK in Thailand website there is a section that deals with passports, in this section there is a link which directs you to the Hong Kong Consulate and gives advice on lost and stolen passports, you will note that this section advises that if you have lost your passort you need to report it to the police and your nearest Consulate, not the Regional Processing Centre, your nearest Consulate.

Jesus wept.

I'm sure that means something to you.

Go back and read what you wrote.

You clearly stated that you can apply for a new passport when reporting the old one lost/stolen. THAT IS NOT TRUE. A new passport can only be applied for in Hong Kong.

I concede that maybe you do have to make a report to the embassy, nobody is perfect. (Although I still suspect the form can be posted). But would people please stop suggesting that the British embassy in BKK will issue a new passport, they won't
