Where To Stay In Phuket? Trisara, Anantara Or Sheraton Grande Laguna

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am planning a trip for my parents (~age 60) and Sister (~ age 30) to PHUKET for 3-4 nights in early June 2011.

They would like to spend some time relaxing in their room, by the beach, dining and some shopping. They would like to take a 1/2 day or 1 day excursion to a nearby island.

I have got quotes from three hotels that we are considering:

1) Trisara - ~ US Dollars 600 (incl. tax) a night for an Oceanfront Pool Villa, with breakfast and round trip airport transfer

2) Anantara - ~US Dollars 500 (incl. tax) a night for a Sala Pool Villa with breakfast

3) Sheraton Grande Laguna - ~275 (incl. tax) a night for a Private Pool Villa (supposedly 3 bedroom) including breakfast

They are not going on a honeymoon, however would like to be comfortable, enjoy some good food and sights, and be away from touts as much as possible.

As their stay is short, price is not the main criteria, however, if the Sheraton is equally good for their needs as the Trisara, then we don't mind saving a bit.

Any suggestions/experiences please?

Thanks,

desidude

Not exactly answering your question but I have stayed at the Millennium Resort at Patong and it was quite good. Stay at the Lakeside part of it though as the rooms are much nicer and quieter. It is basically at the end of Bangla Road and joins the Jongceylon shopping complex. Just a walk up Bangla Road to the beach.

Worth a thought.

As far as I know the Sheraton will be closed at that time already, rebranding and renovating to Angsana Hotel.

I would choose the Anantara or even the Trisara..

Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket closes on 1 June 2011. Try Trisara as it's nice and has a great view!

Sheraton is out due to closure.

Trisara and Anantara, too far away from anything, OP says they want to do some shopping and dining out.

Laguna Beach Club? You are in the Laguna complex and near Bangtao.

Moevenpick? Right across from the beach, Karon has restaurants and shopping.

Le Meridien Patong? Private beach, not exactly in Patong but close enough for dining shopping options.

Anantara!

It beats Trisara on Trip Advisor and sounds like a better deal.

I enjoyed "The Old Phuket" nice quiet, and a little chalet with a private jacuzzi. A short walk to the beach and nice and quiet, breakfast was okay as well.

For 3-4 nights my choise would be Le Meridien. Superquiet as no traffic, huge beachfront pool, nice buffet dinners some nightsThai some nights western food, and 5 minutes taxi/tuk tuk to shopping. That is if you dont mind Russians, as they seem to be in majority

Go for Trisara. One of the best (if not the best) hotels in Phuket. You have the best beaches (at least for me) very close to the hotel, the only thing is that the area is lacking of good local restaurants.

Forget the Sheraton as it is very old and crowded!

Cheers

Have a look at The Village Coconut Island. Check the website out and PM me for more details.

But come low season monsoon, the waters at these beaches are treacherous.

For the poster that says Anantara because it is a good deal, that's because no one is staying there as it's so far away from anything, as I mentioned before regarding both of these properties.

Now "The Old Phuket" in Karon, that's an interesting option, for sure a whole lane of restaurants just outside, and not too far from most things, but I think so far the best option for the OP is the Le Meridien Patong.

P.S. and reason for edit, The Village Coconut Island won't have much in the way of dining options and shopping as was the OP's interest in initial post.

I think you'll find that the Amanpuri is considered the best hotel on the island. Playground of royalty, the rich and the famous.

You are right, I missed the early June information from the OP. Thanks for pointing it out.

Still, out of the three hotels he mentioned at the beginning, I will definitely choose Trisara.

I do prefer Trisara as all of the villas have gorgeous views out over the Andaman Sea while at the Amanpuri not all the villas have the sea view.....service is pretty much the same.

Also Trisara got a private beach (although it is small) while Amanpuri is sharing the beach with Chedi hotel plus all the yacths....

cheers

Yachts this time of year? Miiyai46 can I ask if you are actually in Phuket? You see Yachts in the water that side of the coast, now?

You sure Trisara's private beach has sand in June?

I'm not talking about this or any particular season but just giving my opinion to KarenBravo when comparing Trisara and Amanpuri hotels.

I do not know in June but two weeks ago I was there and the beach did have sand.

Edti: Sorry about the double post

Understood and no worries, regarding the beaches, it's just that we have had some surf and full moon tides recently.

Karenbravo would know more than I about Yacht moorings, as I believe his nic is his boat, but I think they move to the other side of the island this time of year.

I hope you had an enjoyable stay. BR, GOM

A yachtie?

Me?

Never!!!

Nic and photo are of a ship I worked on for many years that holds particularly good memories for me.
