Even though I've lived in BKK for 12 years, I've never had a tourist visa before. So I'm confused.

Got a double entry tourist visa back in the UK in March - was here for first 60 days, then extended it for another 30 at immigration in BKK. I'm due to leave the country to activate my second entry this weekend, for another 60 days. But.....

I just noticed stamped into my passport after the 30 day extension is the message "To keep your stay permit, re-entry permit must be made in Thailand"

So here's the question......

Do I NEED to get a re-entry permit before I leave to reactivate my second entry on the tourist visa or will I lose the tourist visa if I don't?

OR

does that message just mean, if I leave Thailand WITHIN THE 30 DAY EXTENSION and want to come back before that ends, I need a re-entry permit?

So confused, and of course, Thai immigration with their usual cluelessness didn't bother to tell me what I was supposed to do.

You don't need a re-entry permit if you want to activate your next entry :)

A re-entry permit keeps your current permission alive if you leave the country, vital for those on 12 month extensions of stay, less useful with a tourist visa unless you want to nip out for a day or two and not lose the visa.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

THAT'S what I was hoping. The wording stamped in my passport just confused me. :)

Thanks so much for the help. GREATLY appreciated.

God knows I don't want to do a frikkin border run on Saturday and find out I only get 15 days when I come back from Cambodia!!!

Just be sure you visa is still valid (use before date). On UK issue it is likely six months but local two entry are normally only 3 months so would be invalid after a 90 day stay.
