Pain

Featured Replies

The g/f is away at mothers and was taken to hospital in a lot of pain. This morning they put a camera down into her stomach.

It seems the stomach is inflamed and also the intestine. The other thing the doctor noted was a lot of 'white' in the stomach.

Trying to get a decent explanation is proving very difficult.

Can someone give me an idea what this 'white' stuff is that the doctor is talking about, please?

And is there something that can be done about it?

I undertand the mother is putting a lot of pressure on the daughter. There are also other external pressures being applied and that may well be causing stress. I do not know if that is relevent.

I have phoned the hospital but the staff do not speak English, so that does not help. As it is also 500 Kms away I am currently unable to go to the hospital.

edit for a question.

Whatever they said, it wasn't "white". Something lost in translation here. Also the g/f may be using a lay term or idiom.

What you describe sounds like gastritis, which is very common in Thailand. Things that might be described as being a lot of in the stomach would be acid, or secretions. Polyps and ulcerations are other possibilities. I don;t see how any of these would come out sounding anything like "white" in either Thai or English though.

She will have been given medication for this, probably something like omeprazole.

As this condition is often due to the presence of heliobacter pylori it is best to either exclude that via a test (which may not be possible in an upcountry hospital) or treat presumptively for it. That involves 3 drugs for about 2 weeks, 2 of them anti-infective agents and one of them omeprazole or other drug to reduce acidity. However I find Thai doctors often don't do this and give only the omeprazole .

I'm in BHN at the moment..tomorrow they are going to 'look down and then up' I have had stomach problems for a some weeks...I did have a PPI and it worked for a while but then the problem came back and got worse.

If I have heliobacter should I try and insist on the three drug treatment..I know that he is going to 'sample' as had to stay of PPIs for a week..thanks.

I assume you mean BNH in which case I would be very surprised if they did not on their own prescribe it to you.

Yes, if you test positive for heliobacter, you should be treated for it. I must warn that the treatment can be a little hard on some folks (a lot of people get nauseous) but persevere.

Thanks...yes....BNH Finger trouble..am just trying to get down 3.5pints of something dissolved in water! OK I have been warned about the treatment side effects....thanks.

Hi, in plain English your G/F has a common problem so need to stress. I have just finished a course of antibiotics for the same thing. They'll do a Gastric test, white liquid to drink and a camera to have a look, she'll be fine after a few days on Antibiotics. Relax.
