I am receiving hospital treatment here and need to go every second day. I was hospitalized before flying home here so I didn't get any visa, just a visa on arrival. Does anyone know if the doctor can give me a letter or something and can get an extension at immigration? I will need to do a border run from here in cm but flying out again is not an option due to my treatment needed for the immediate future. I will be getting treatment for approximately 3-4 more months. I guess they will just say go home?

Also, I can't seem to find any information on this but I am divorced and have a child here. What kind of visa can I get now?

The Hospital should be able to help you.

From Police order 777/2551

2.25 In the case of medical treatment or convalescence or to look after a patient:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time.

(1) Confirmation and request has been made by a physician responsible for the treatment.

The Physician must describe the details of treatment and advised that the illness is a barrier for travelling.

(2) In the case of looking after a patient, confirmation and request has been made by the physician responsible for the treatment or by an embassy or consulate.

(3) Patient Carer, except parents, spouse, children, adopted children or children of spouse, shall be granted no more than 1 extra person.

Else you could apply for extension of stay based on visiting your child.

2.24 In the case of an alien visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time.

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de jure (legitimate) and de facto.

He did not say anything about visiting his child so that may not be an option for extension of stay - but for a Consulate issued visa it might allow single entry non immigrant O - but he should check on medical extension of stay now.

Some of the international hospitals have very good liason with immigration and can take care of extending your stay for you.

The OP asked:

If not given extension under 2.25, the OP can try 2.24

I started to receive hospital treatment about Dec' 26 and I was due to go to Australia for my visa by Feb'2. Doctor told me I must not travel, I got a form from immigration and a form from the hospital which the doctor filled out, you must then get the hospital stamp on the doctors form. One photo and presented it to immigration and they gave me 60 day extension at a cost of 1,900 Baht. No problems. 60 days later I still could not travel and went through the same procedure again, immigration requested 'a present' this time, got another 60 days. Earlier this month I had an operation and just the other day got a further 45 day extension, the reason for only 45 days was the doctor thought I would be able to travel in that time frame. This last time my wife went in to immigration without me, there is no need for you to do it yourself.

Just got back and due to my ex wife who was "helping" me and is a complete knucklehead only got another month. we saw immigration (who were great about it really) and had a form for the dr to fill in. my treating dr was not available so another dr did it for me but stated I needed another 30 days of treatment. we went back in the afternoon to see my treating dr who had written a letter saying I needed "more than 30 days of treatment" the previous day and I said we need to get another form from immigration so my treating dr could have written that on the immigrations form but noooooo. It has to get all murky and convulted and it will be ok and off we go back to immigration with all the forms and pictures of my wound filled out and I get one month andf a cheery "you go to Vientienne for tourist visa" from the immigration officer after handing over the B1900.

I think I will take his advice and go. I really need to find a Thai lady to help me when needed and just pay her. Someone who can handle the simplest of beuracratic tasks will be fine......

In feb 2010 last year, when my father was here on his death bed, Immigration required me to leave the country, apply for a new visa and return 3 days later, Even when the hospital next door to Immigration as well as the doctors pleaded. He did days after I returned.
