Bangkok Bar Closes Its Doors

Video Of The Day - Texas Lone Star Saloon

A nostalgic look back throughout the years of the Texas Lone Star Saloon. Sadly it closes its doors, but the Texas Saloon leaves behind some special Bangkok bar history. Acclaimed authors Dean Barrett, Stephen Leather and Christopher Moore, regularly held book signings at the Texas Saloon. These events often attracted large crowds. Hence the name, this bar was particularly popular with Americans, who will miss their local watering hole. A piece of Bangkok’s history is about to depart and I thought the least I could do was to share this video with you…

That's a real shame- something of an institute for sure. Has it actually closed already? Was just in there last week. Would be nice to have a final drink!

Were those pics taken inside the bar or was that a local ex-pat retirement home?

Last time that I've been there, that was for a farewell to George -the previous owner, not our dearest Puyai Baan!-...

This must be a decade ago?!? :(

Well in the video, if you watched it, it says last day was 28th of May 2011, so yes its closed.

W.S. must now be in the final death throws, Burboun Street is moving soon to a new location in Ekami. I have a feeling Stickman mentioned about the lease's are all up soon.

Not been in The Lone Star for years, but it always seemed to have charaters hanging about

As I was watching this video, particularly the live shots, I am thinking - the people in this bar who are paying for the drinks are really really old (and I am really really old myself), so there is a real marketing problem here.

But I enjoyed the video, and it is always sad to see places we know close down.

Cheers

Actually, everybody you saw in the video is under 42. They just look old. That's what living in Bangkok does to some people.

Wow - I was always at the Lone Star when I was in bangkok. First went about 12 years ago - an American friend took me there. George, Richard, the staffand the customers - was always a great friendly place. Who remembers the twins?

Food was good. I used to stay upstairs in the rooms - nothing spectacular may have been really old but were clean! Getting up the stairs was the fun bit, after you had had a few.

I will miss the place but the memories will always be there.

BTW - I remember quite a few of those faces in the video!!! Lots of characters not in it though

There was a fella in there the other week staying upstairs who was making a documentary about vietnam vets.. does anyone know any details about this as would be interesting to see it eventually.
