Featured Replies

hi all

apologies if i sound a silly but i know little about buddhism but im learning (very slowly)

my girlfriend has told me she wishes to attend her local temple in BKK and live there for a week, i'm all for it and i'm happy she wishes to do this.

is this a normal thai/buddhist thing to do? and what does she do when she there? i guess learn and meditate?

shes 29 if that means anything

thanks for any info or answers you can provide...

My wife generally does about 3 days but comes our refreshed and inspired and ready to live fully once again. Am planning to do it myself soon !

This is a fairly normal Thai thing. Usually the Thai's put on white clothing and stay at the temple for 2 or 3 days over Wan Phra day, the full moon. I've had them stay for a week, but it's usually the week leading up to a big Buddhist holy day.

Wife and all her mates/friends did a 3 day stint a couple of weeks ago and they all seemed to have enjoyed it..think it was the Buddas birthday....and none of them are under ...err @ 40.

I did my time a couple of years ago in our local Wat in Mae-on and must also say it was mosr "reflective"..

Trouble is our head monk keeps trying to get me in for the 90 day session which I recon I aint ready for yet...maybe one day......not that "oly. :o ...haircut was free :)
